He is going to pick the team after next season that has the best QB situation. He didn’t want to go the next two years without a franchise QB and in salary cap hell

It will get ugly when the Saints demand compensation from the new team

Got to remember Saints in 2017 had a sticky situation with Tom Benson and the three R's.

Payton where ever he goes next he will come out empty. He had the most accurate passer in NFL history and underachieved. Despite management fully supporting him with resources. He has wasted so many 1st round picks on project players and busts it might be a record. And the defenses he fielded were some of the worst I have seen. He will never have a Drew Brees type again. And if he couldn't get it done with Brees more than once, he ain't getting it done with anyone else.

You’re all wrong. He’s headed over to coach Man U in the Premier League…

Listening to Underhill’s podcast and he said that Payton had made numerous attempts to leave and anytime there was smoke or rumors, they were likely true.

This means the stupid AD trade probably did block him from the Cowboys.

I didn't listen to it but people need to realize payton isn't some angel. The guy put his name out there multiple times.

My guess is it will be a lot less than you think. Loomis isn't going to hold him hostage.

He should but he won't.

Not saying this is true but reporters sit on a lot of info they have. Just cause don’t report at time doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Even if none of these rumors are true. It’s still bullshite that he’s leaving. Everyone knows this retirement is just a ruse. The man’s 58, he’s gonna coach again. He could retire a saint if he wanted but he’s chosen to bail. This sucks.

Glad some of you are finally seeing the light. Payton is a low-character piece of shite who is a good but not great coach. Good riddance.

Remember Cowher did something similar with the Steelers and he never came back as a HC.

Yea, he's absolutely not done coaching.

He'll be back I'm sure of it. Must have needed to recharge the batteries. It's been said that with COVID, the past two seasons have been pretty rough. Add in that he's been here 16 years, can't say I blame him.

I’m a subscriber and love his content. But you couldn’t be more right about his co host- not to mention that putrid rap song at the beginning

The rams job was after the 2016 season, so it’s not surprising that he may have thought a change could be have been good after three 7-9 seasons. Plus the benson family conflict.

He also had that instance where he tried to get his contract tied to loomis’s contract, but the nfl vetoed it.

Sean put us on the map. He doesn’t owe us anything. Another franchise qb would have been nice though.

He said he may coach again, but I hope he gets in the broadcast booth and excels at that.

If all of this is true, what changed in him in one year? Was one more 7-9 season what did it for him?

These are quotes from him Jan 2015.
quote:

'Here I am and nothing is changing and I plan on finishing my career here.' I think Zach Strief said it best last week, 'I'll be here as long as they'll have me.'

quote:

I read something Fletcher (Mackel) said a few weeks back, and I can't recall, but it was something like leave early a hero or stay late and become a villain, and if I have to someday become a villain then I plan on staying until everyone says 'we are burning your wagon out of town.'

I guess it could all have been lies. But Sean really did seem to love it here pre-Bensons death. It seemed genuine to me.
