I also think it's possible (put your tin foil hat on) that there isn't any internal talks about Sean leaving and this whole thing has snowballed out of control as a result of our past few seasons... Media speculation is a mother fricker and it's our turn (again) to deal with it... It doesn't take long for nothing to turn into something with all the hackjobs reporting 'news' these days One good offseason and then a 12-4 season with a playoff appearance and all this shite will be silenced... It's gonna happen... Next year

The only issue with this is that, if that was the case, why has the team been so quiet? You can bullshite some answers if you want to, but realistically, teams who are absolutely keeping their coach have come out in support. The Rams came out and said Fisher is safe. The same for the Jags and Bradley. If Payton was staying, he would have said something to the players at least - instead, nothing. If the plan was 100% he is staying it would have been announced by now IMO. I think he ENDS UP staying but I doubt it's just like been a 100% thing. No reason to destroy the players mindsets for nothing.

Sean Fazende

When asked if Saints were seeking a 2 as comp for Payton. A source told me, 'when was it ever a 2?'

What drives me nuts in this day and age is that someone just basically makes up a story and then all of the networks just run with it.

Like the false story about Payton and the Colts negotiating. Several people have come out and said that was 100% false, yet I heard on the radio ESPN and Fox and Florio all running with it and treating it as if it was Gospel.

It means its ridiculous, not based in reality, and that we would be asking for a lot more.

If the coach in question may want to leave even more than you want to keep him, you keep quiet and let things play out behind the scenes. It's common sense.

Don't try to make this about the players.. They more than likely know exactly what's going on...

Sports fans are so spoiled these days and want answers before questions are even officially posted... The team owes us (the fans) nothing.. They don't have to stand on a podium and announce that CSP is staying or going.. They don't owe us shite... As long as the players are in the loop, why the frick does it matter what WE know..

I'm sure the organization has their reasons for handling situations (or non-situations in this instance) the way they do... Just be patient for crying out loud

And rand, this wasn't directed specifically at you, just to everyone in general

Payton and Saints GM Mickey Loomis were in meetings for hours in New Orleans on Monday. How it turns out, I don’t know. I do know that many around Payton think he’s ready to go—not that he’ll be miserable if nothing can be worked out with another team and he has to stay (he’s under contract with the Saints for two more seasons). But he understands that the defense can’t be built back up in a day, and he understands that if Drew Brees doesn’t take some sort of contract modification to lower his $30-million cap number for 2016, the Saints might have a different quarterback this fall. So it may be time to get out while the getting’s good. The Niners will have about 12 draft choices in 2016, with at least $52 million to spend under the 2016 salary cap. And they have the seventh pick in the first round, good for Payton to go find his new quarterback. All in all, there’s a lot about this job for Payton to like—and it would solve a major credibility problem for the embattled Niners czar, Jed York.

The logic in this statement is questionable, at best.

Maybe not. But is it a foregone conclusion that they defense has ZERO change to improve next year? shite, the Saints had a historically bad defense in 2012. The next season they were in the top 5 in just about every defensive category. It's the NFL. Things can change drastically from season to season.

Again, true. But has there been anything other than sheer speculation that Brees won't be the Saints QB next year?

This isn't the same 49ers roster from 2 years ago. They lost essentially all of their great players. It's a complete rebuilding job there. True, they have a ton of draft picks, but this QB class doesn't exactly inspire confidence. There may not be a QB worthy of a top 10 pick and do they really think Payton would be able to catch lightening in a bottle again and get HOF QB as a Free Agent?

This is the same group that couldn't get along with, and ultimately let go a coach who made it to the NFC championship in each of his first 3 years. This, after the team went nearly 10 years without making the playoffs. Who's to say something like that wouldn't happen again.

Indy made a lot more sense with Luck there. Why would he want to go to a team in a tough division, with nothing at QB, and a roster that looks like a 2-3 year rebuild job at best?
