Is Peat the worse 1st round draft in saints history or just the worse 1st round draft choice last year? Also who had the final say with this pick?

Don't give up on Peat yet. He's young, just 22 years old, and still needs work on technique like setting his hips low against the rush. His college coach David Shaw said that the day Peat was drafted. I didn't like the pick when it was made, but I do think he'll be a solid pro eventually. He just needs time.

It's hard to recall very many players that looked like shite at first but then figured it out. I was debating with my dad about this the other day. The older I get and the more football I watch, the more I think you can pretty much tell right away and it seems to always be the case.

ETA: I don't think Peat looks as bad as some think fwiw, but the above is still how I feel in general.

Is this the worst 14th post ever or just the worst post today?

It happens, they just usually are not 1st round picks so they do not get the attention. Had Peat been drafted in the 4th or later, most of these posters would be cautiously optimistic about his potential over the next 1-2 years. But, since he was a 1st rounder, everyone expects him to be All-Pro on the 1st day.

Peat looked rough in the 1st game, but i mean dear god - he has played every position in training camp. i mean i get the need for cross training, but they need to just put him in one place and let him get the reps and experience there and then maybe cross train.

not letting him get accustomed to one spot is just gonna hurt his progression, and maturing in the NFL, in the long run.

not willing to call the guy a bust - he just needs to be given a chance to learn a primary spot on the line, and go with that.

Maybe we should bump the thread from immediately after he was drafted...

Drew Brees, LinkPeyton Manning LINKJimmy Graham LINK, Zach Strief, Delvin Breaux (couldn't make a team), Brett Favre LINK, Joe Horn LINK
So how did you feel about those guys in their first season or in some cases first three or four seasons.
It's not as bad as it seems, it never is. Remember the last #1 we all slammed every day on here, LINK

Ok Jim horn is the only one that qualifies as someone that looked like shite at some point. Breaux has extending circumstances that led to his path.

Are you kidding?

Jimmy hardly played, a development player his first year. Drew all but lost his job (remember they had the #1 overall pick and they chose a QB). Peyton was horrible. Zach was a back up until his 7th year (correct me if I am wrong). Favre was traded and sucked until his fourth year. Read the links my man... There are tons more these were just a couple of Saints players and Hall of Famer's off the top of my head. This is very much a development league, you draft potential as well as ready to play players.

Terry Bradshaw couldn't beat out Joe Gilliam early in his career. Bradshaw is in the HOF. Otoh, people are probably asking "Who was Joe Gilliam?"
