So there was a history of Davenport and Turner being hurt in college?
Serious? Well documented Turner was injured a lot in college….

I’m in denial?? Exactly what are you talking about? Clearly a guy who you drafted in the first round that can’t get on the field is a disaster. And I thought when they drafted Turner it was a bit if a reach, because he wasn’t projected that high and it wasn’t to my view an area of need. The point of my post was in response to a serial Payton basher who blasted him for drafting two injury prone DE’s. I merely pointed out I wasn’t sure how you could blame the fact that they are injury prone on Payton when neither really exhibited that in college. How this makes me in denial is confusing. Care to elaborate?

Davenport has shut me up this year.
Still gets hurt too much but he is becoming elite.

I'm going to attribute all the butthurt in this thread to the fact that Turner hasn't really been on the field. That's what has made me so annoyed with the pick.
I want him on the field. The first round talent should be an immediate impact except for maybe a quarterback. I'm just really butthurt that I haven't gotten the chance to legitimately see him play and make my own conclusions on the value the Saints got.

I guess it depends on what you consider “a lot” to be. He missed 5 games his last three seasons out of 33. I don’t personally consider that a lot. Obviously you do (or maybe you just aren’t aware of the facts).

It seems he broke his foot near the end of his sophomore season as well.

Yes and missed two games as a result.

This. I get that his injuries & missing games can get frustrating but when he is on the field, he is simply dominant against the run as well as pressuring the quarterback. What's really crazy is that Turner, in limited action as a rookie, has shown that same potential as well.

The Davenport that is leading the team in sacks
Not much of an accomplishment unfortunately.

Because it happened near the end of the season. Two big injuries in 4 years is notable. Doesn’t mean he is going to suck or be for sure injury prone but it is something of an injury history

6.5 sacks in 8 games is a really good ratio, he obviously has the ability. He causes problems when he's out there

Who’s spot was he going to take? Not Jordan’s. Davenport, even though hurt, is a much better player right now. Turner was drafted for the future.
The saints rarely let draft picks start, even 1st rounders. Saints draft for the future. That’s their MO. You may not like it, but coach P is like #2 or 3 in active wins.

Fans on this board have trashed Cam, Trey Hendrickson and Davenport over the years for not producing immediately.
I listened to a podcast with former All Pro DE Robert Mathis. He said it takes 3-4 years for a DE to become finished product. Says it’s one of the biggest learning curves from CFB to the NFL.
Cam Jordan had 1 sack, 2 TFL and 4 QB hits in 16 games his rookie year
Turner has 1 sack, 3 TFL and 3 QB hits in 5 games

Cam was still overshadowed by the Vanilla Gorilla Jeff Charleston, to be fair

My replay about 6.5 sacks in 8 games was talking about Davenport so I don't understand your response about who's spot was he going to take. I guess you meant Turner, he wasn't taken to replace anyone this year, he was brought in for pass rush packages getting 3 DEs on the field, for high quality depth/rotation at DE and to eventually start when Cam leaves/retires

What is actually wrong with Payton Turner?

This is the problem. I love him as a player, when he plays. My comment was in regards to the lack of production from any other pass rusher besides an occasional good game by Jordan.

Turner looked really good against the run.

What exactly is he out for right now?

The hits just keep coming for the New Orleans Saints, who sent rookie defensive end Payton Turner to injured reserve on Thursday(11/11/21). Turner suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons and tried to play through it, but it’s a severe enough issue for him to be shut down for at least three weeks. No word yet on whether this is a season-ending issue for him.

What all has he been out for this year?

He’s also missed time with elbow and calf muscle issues. Hopefully he heals up fully and can return to the lineup some time this season.
