just curious, does anyone know if Hayes legally owned the gun used?
I thought I read that it was not registered.

We have a problem with a culture that devalues life. Guns are just a means to expressing that lack of said value. We celebrate music and media that promotes murder and violence, then want to blame everything but ourselves when things go horribly wrong.

Well said sir

Heroin, cocaine, etc. are illegal too. Do the laws prevent the criminals from getting them as well?

This has been covered.

Well, we also have the largest prison population of any first world country. Our prison industrial complex is another completely absurd thing.

Did he legally purchase the gun or can he legally own a gun? Or if the gun has ever been reported stolen?

I get he's emotional b/c he just lost a close friend. People say and do foolish things when tragedy strikes.

Prayers for Mr. Smith's family.

Some people just don't like/get guns but that's just their prerogative.

Indeed it is.

I personally wouldn't use a close tragedy to soapbox about an issue, but some people get emotional.

It is just a terrible thing. 34 is way too young.

If we just fixed our enforcement of pre-existing laws, we'd be halfway there.

Half these guys who shoot up schools got their guns "legally" because someone in the beauracracy screwed up.

I'm no crazy gun person. Don't even have a gun actually. But are people so ignorant that they don't even know why this country has the second amendment in the first place?

Every year more than 30k Americans are killed in car accidents and 99% of those are preventable and all about poor behaviours of the driver. Drunk drivers, distracted drivers, driving too fast for conditions and other deliberate wreck less driving. When are people going to get pissed about this and do something about it?

I liked this quote from Brees

quote:

“People are going to make arguments now about gun control. And it just seems to me … This is about the way … the way human beings treat other human beings …”

Within 40 years you probably won't even be able to drive a car except under tightly controlled circumstances, with the advancement of self-driving vehicles.

It is an emotional response.

Let's blame an inanimate object instead of looking at and resloving the actual problem.

Much easier to do that than to have a real conversation about the actual problems.

This is not the time or place for that, though.
