Yeah quite possible. I remember this to some degree last year, but it seems worse this year, which signals if that is the case the problem for those mid range guys will only get worse each year.

Jordan and Godchaux have been processed and we now sit at 31.9 mil in space with these moves left to process:

Mathieu payout/restructure
Chase Young new contract (currently only showing old prorated bonuses)
Reid contract
3 more guys signed who will be very negligible for cap space.

We should have at least 20 mil left in space after that all goes through, maybe as much as 25ish mil. Taking out the rookies' effective space they will take up, we should have 15-20 mil left to sign FAs, which is enough to sign at least 3 to 4 big ones if we want (structured so they are 2-5 mil cap hits year 1).

I think you aren't seeing movement on the mid-tier guys because why rush to sign a 1 year deal? If I am Keenan Allen, I am waiting, at a minimum, till after the draft. If a WR needy team misses out on getting a good WR, then I go sign the 1 year, 10 million dollar deal he could have had today.

What is your opinion on what the 2026 cap will look like after these deals and the rookie class is signed? Right now, they are sitting around $16M under, but I could see that being around $30M over once these figures get finalized.

Obviously, Carr will be able to come off, if they decide to move him next season, and cut $10M before the league year. But the interesting part to me is there are not a bunch of guys sitting at $20M+; will probably be just Carr & Young when the dusts settle. I think we had 5-6 guys with cap hits over $20M before the restructures started.

I was hoping Cam agreed to 1 more year on his deal so we could add a vet minimum in 2026 and have him retire 6/1/26 so we don't have to take that full $18.8M hit next year

We are incredibly healthy heading into next year, even though once processed all the current moves will likely have us a little over the cap next year to start.

I'm assuming Carr gets restructured unless something disastrous happens, which saves 36.5 mil on the cap (cutting him only saves around 9.5 mil, and waiting until June 1st likely isn't going to happen, unless as said before it ends very badly). That alone will have us back into the positive, and probably pretty far into it.

As it stands now, if we restructure Carr, McCoy, Ruiz, Granderson, and Johnson we would be 80 mil under the cap. Even though you still need to add Young and Reid to next year once their deals are done, you know they will restructure as well, which means that it's likely we'll be starting free agency next year around at least 60-70 mil under the cap.

That also means we could absorb the Carr hit if cut pre June 1st, but it just seems very unlikely we go that route as it stands now.

Yeah I think both players and teams are holding on their numbers and neither is willing to budge at the moment. Post draft always loosens things up, but that's still quite a ways away.

I agree it sounds unlikely, but unless he has one of his better years, I think he's poised for a cut before the new season, with the post 6/01 designation. I just don't see Moore hitching his future to a 35 (going into 2026) year old QB unless there is major improvement in his performance.

Sure, it will only save $9.5M against the 2026 cap at the time, but as you laid out, they have plenty of other restructures they can work through if they need additional space. And as you know, those restructures are probably already worked into the contract.

Yup they are definitely worked in, so we do have options.

I think the BIGGEST part of that equation will be if we can find a better QB, or at least an effective, cheaper one. Without that I don't see us moving on.

I mean it’s certainly not the worst option to draft Carr’s replacement and let him sit for a year while you shore up the offensive line and weapons.

Carr is serviceable and is a good veteran for a rookie to learn from. Buys you plenty time to absorb Carr’s contract, replenish your roster, and not rush a rookie QB into a bad situation.

Exactly. Unless the rookie or even 2nd year QB shows he is truly ready, no reason to push him into a potentially bad situation.

That's one I had thought could happen, but didn't necessarily think it would.

Tells me some of the 2nd tier guys like Allen aren't budging down from their prices.

Even though I don’t love this signing, I do like that Moore is adding speed. Velus Jones as a RB and even older Cooks are improvements in that department.

Did word ever come out if Saints didn’t want MVS or did MVS just want to move on?

Edit: With that being said, there are some rumblings about the future of wide receiver Chris Olave.

David Latham of Last Word on Sports has suggested that the New England Patriots could look to pull off a trade with the Saints for the talented young wideout

As posted earlier, I don't recall who, he is coming up on 2nd contract and will I'm sure demand a large contract. Trade him before we lose him in FAs for nothing as seems to be our FO MO.
