re: No one makes pre-draft trades for anything other than a QB

I will agree that it’s not worth drafting any of the current quarterbacks when you still have a recent fourth round draft pick and just brought in a veteran as a back up.

*at their projected/mock slots
I'd take Corral or Howell with a mid-2nd to mid-3rd
I'd take Willis with one of the last couple picks in the 1st (to get that 5-year contract just like the Ravens did with Lamar) and pray.

as someone who has very closely watched the offenses of both Freeze and Kiffin....
I would 10 out of 10 take a quarterback from Lane's offense than Hugh's. That offense is much more of a gimmick than Lane's.

The Bills made multiple deals to work their way up the draft for Josh Allen. The Eagles did the same to get Wentz. I can’t think of a team trading future picks for an extra first just to get a non-QB, especially this far ahead of the draft. Prepare for another trade into the Top 10.
I'm afraid you are exactly right.
The best hope is that our plan fails, and we have to stay pat and draft best available.
Spending multiple years of a draft to overpay for a QB in a weak, weak, QB draft is a good way to set your franchise back a decade.

No one can seem to answer this- if the goal was to get in the top 10, why not just do that from the jump? Why do this middle trade?
The obvious answer is that you don't know for sure where you need to be to draft your guy. So, you acquire draft capital and you find partners that would be willing to give your their spot for your two #1s. Then you sit back and wait for the opportunity.

He played shite competition and wasn't that great.
He has tools to run but isn't the best runner.
He has physical tools for passing but his mental side is terrible and that was running a very simple offense.
He's also not tall.
reminds me what this board said about Lamar Jackson

The Saints are great at scouting some positions but are utterly terrible at QB
What makes you say that?
QBs that aren't very highly rated are really a crapshoot.

Mike D had a good point. If you package these picks to move up for a QB or an OT, you are essentially trading 3 first round picks for a player
Trading up (assuming we don't add picks) doesn't change what we gave up in this trade.
It's not 3 #1s.

a. We don't run a system that Lamar can run
b. Lamar isn't a title-winning QB b/c of those limitations

It's about the talent, which is why I said "and pray". He may also take longer to develop (hence the cost-controlled 5 years)

So you're saying every QB is a crapshoot this year?

This is the worst QB class in a while. I'd have to go back and compare but I wouldn't trade up for any of them for sure.
ETA: and my comment wasn't about this draft...it was about your assertion that the franchise is unable to assess QB talent.
What's your basis for that comment?

He gone. Bortles asked to be released and Saints said they will do so. They are absolutely going with a QB.

Look at our draft history with the current regime.

We're gonna give him better wide receivers than Godwin and Evans?
Add to them a pro-bowl running back and a top 5 defense and i think you have something special.

You are basing that statement on Garrett Grayson? Ian book?
This regime hasn't invested anything other than long shots at QB...very weak argument.

Andy Dalton much? But yes, they are trading up for a QB.

They’re more likely to trade up for Ickey or Neal or even Stingley than a QB
