No one makes pre-draft trades for anything other than a QB

The Bills made multiple deals to work their way up the draft for Josh Allen. The Eagles did the same to get Wentz. I can’t think of a team trading future picks for an extra first just to get a non-QB, especially this far ahead of the draft. Prepare for another trade into the Top 10.

Yep. Saints want Willis. Everyone on this board is just in denial

What a terrible mistake that would be. He’s got bust written all over him.

No one can seem to answer this- if the goal was to get in the top 10, why not just do that from the jump? Why do this middle trade?

We could have packaged multiple firsts to just go straight to the top 10

The pick the Eagles have at 15 is from a trade they made with the Dolphins a month before last year's draft so the Dolphins could move up for a WR.

This early in the draft, they’d have to Rickey Williams the shite and get into top 3. If they only go to 4/5, Carolina is in an easy position to leapfrog right in front of them. I think they stay put and draft 2 players out of OT/WR2/SS. When you look at what they lost and what they need to fill between draft & FA; they really are only looking at a few need pieces: OT to replace Armstead, WR2, SS to replace Jenkins, LBer to replace Kwon, Guard depth/Ruiz replacement

Because they are building the capital now so they can do it on draft day. You’re not moving into the top 5 for what they gave the Eagles. They need two firsts this year to make it happen.

There. Answered.

No. That’s what you want them to do. You conflate your desire and their intentions, which most on this board do.

The reality is nobody makes this type of trade this far in advance just to have extra first round picks. That’s goofy. You only trade up for targeted players, and they have no idea if their targeted players will even be there at this spot. Advance moves like this are designed to setup one more move

Who their target is though is debatable. I think it’s most likely a QB, but I can see them going up to grab that tackle from NC State.

You may be right. But they also have a number of players that need big contracts, or have big contracts and are aging. Could be that some new top level talent was needed on rookie contracts.

Who knows. Very interesting to watch.

Because a potential trade partner would want immediate capital?

Everything?

He played shite competition and wasn't that great.

He has tools to run but isn't the best runner.

He has physical tools for passing but his mental side is terrible and that was running a very simple offense.

He's also not tall.

Willis has bust written all over him. All of the QBs do outside of Ridder, imho, and Ridder's peak is solid QB.

Willis is intriguing b/c he's the only QB this year with real top-5 potential, it's just the odds of that happening are insanely low.

Right. And imagine trying to make two trades work on draft day. The reality is that this move gives us flexibility on draft day. We can see how things fall. If we’re in a position to draft a QB we like, we can. If we can’t make that happen we can grab two good players.

We all knew the Saints were going to draft a guard this year

We should have traded back, then

There are no QBs with 1st round grades this year in a normal year other than possible a low-1st for Ridder

You won’t have any chance of getting your QB pick then. The Saints might have a higher grade on one of the QBs than others. They also might value getting their guy into the system a year earlier. I imagine they’ll stay because I’m sure these QBs will be hard to trade up for.

The Saints are great at scouting some positions but are utterly terrible at QB

Not till 2023, which is OK b/c we have Jameis for 2 years

Any time a QB gets picked before our pick at 16, it's a blessing for us and makes the pick more +EV.

You’re looking at this from a long-term view that fans can take. The Saints staff needs to / wants to win now. That means they need to find the QB of the future as soon as possible. Maybe that’s Winston but I really don’t know. And 2024 is a lifetime away. So either this staff will draft a QB now or has written off drafting a QB and think Winston / future FA QB will work.

No I'm looking at this from an economical and logical view.

Then the worst thing they could do is draft one of these QBs

Dude, you're literally projecting what you just said:
