overpay for a QB in a weak, weak, QB draft is a good way to set your franchise back a decade.

It’s absolutely silly to say shite like this considering how random the draft still is at the QB position. It wouldn’t surprise me if all these guys sucked. It also wouldn’t surprise me if guys like Corral, Pickett, Willis and Ridder turn into quality starters. Nobody fricking knows

1. Better stats than Josh Allen against better comp.

2. Every scout that has laid eyes on him says his running is elite. Borderline generational. Not as athletic as someone like Lamar but sets up blocks and breaks tackles like a RB. So yea you're dead wrong on that part.

3. Won't argue here but with the RPO stuff becoming more popular, this has been a concern with every qb in recent years outside of Burrow and Pickett. Patrick Mahomes still has no clue what to do with the ball when he sees two safeties back.

4. Height hasn't mattered in forever. Baker, Kyler, Tua, Hurts, Russ. As long as you cash move you're fine. And he's more stocky than all those guys outside maybe Jalen.

5. Ridder also played weak comp with a better supporting cast. Yes he can read the field but he has a below average arm and below average accuracy combined with a slow release.

but yes, Malik Willis has bust written all over him.

You’re looking at this from a long-term view that fans can take. The Saints staff needs to / wants to win now. That means they need to find the QB of the future as soon as possible. Maybe that’s Winston but I really don’t know. And 2024 is a lifetime away. So either this staff will draft a QB now or has written off drafting a QB and think Winston / future FA QB will work.

Correct.

The Draft Network also agrees

quote:

To me, the only logical explanation of Monday’s trade from the Saints' perspective is that they are in love with a quarterback in this year’s class and they needed the extra draft capital to move up to the top five and select their guy.

quote:

Now with two first-round picks in this year’s class, the Saints have three top 50 picks in this year’s draft to offer up to a team in the top five that isn’t in the market for a quarterback. The question now is, who is the quarterback the Saints are targeting? If I was a betting man, I’d guess that it’s Liberty’s Malik Willis.

Him moving more towards the Briles-esque offense post-FAU is going to likely keep the list at a small number b/c that offense is TERRIBLE for developing NFL QBs (although it does help QBs in college)

He ran the Briles offense at fau. It was a combination of the baylor/Alabama offense.

I do agree about corral though. That system is basically quick reads. It's hard to tell what he can really do.

He gone. Bortles asked to be released and Saints said they will do so. They are absolutely going with a QB.

Yeah, did you miss us signing Andy Dalton?

There are two Ohio State WR's projected to go first round. Wouldn't be surprised if they went after Olave

Bumping my own thread to remind y’all: No one makes pre-draft trades for anything other than a QB.

Maybe we just give up our 2nd to move up from 16 to 10 or so, but the Saints will be trading up for a QB.
