Trade for Sheldon Richardson?
We drafted a 3T in the 1st round last year, so I'd say Fairley's replacement is already on the team. Oneymata did a decent job creating pressure last year, and you have Davison on early downs. You also have the option, assuming Kikaha comes back healthy and productive, to push Cam inside on passing downs, and have Okafor and Kikaha on the edge.
The most important thing here is Fairley's health, which I'm sure we all agree. As much as it sucks football-wise, we have guys that should be able to step up.

PFT says this:

So what's the the truth on this? I assume the signing bonus is still sunk cost but still spread across the 4 years of the deal.
ETA: From sportrac...
Contract Notes:
$9M guaranteed at signing (signing bonus + 2017 salary)
2018 salary fully guarantees on the third league day of 2018
2018 Roster Bonus: $750,000 (guarantees on the third league day of 2018)
2019 Roster Bonus: $475,000 (15th league day)
2019 Per Game Active Bonus: $28,125 ($450,000)
2020 Roster Bonus: $475,000 (15th league day)
2020 Per Game Active Bonus: $28,125 ($450,000)
2019-20 Workout Bonus: $125,000
$500k yearly sack incentive

The Saints also have the option not to pay Fairley while he is on the list. Fairley signed a four-year, $28 million contract with the Saints after recording 6.5 sacks for the team last season.

IF they can't get relief either by voiding his contract or something similar, this has to be the fricking end for Mickey loomis. Absolutely inexcusable

Poor Drew is going to have to put up 35 a game again this season

I'm not exactly a defender of Loomis, but I don't see how this is his fault. People get diagnosed and die from heat issues all the time, most of them not being caught until it's too late.
I agree with you if the Saints knew about the condition prior to the contract, but if not, it's just bad luck for everyone.

This brings us closer to 7-9?

didn't his heart issue get flagged pre draft?

Hope he's able to live a long and heathy life outside of football.
Next man up.
Next man up.

Damn that sucks... especially since he's a free agency acquisition that we 100% nailed... which we haven't done a lot recently

Loomis has made some boneheaded moves but can't really blame him here. Heart problems go unnoticed all the time.

I thought it was known that he had possible heart problems at the combine in 2011.

Maybe don't have to pay for a non-football injury?
Looks like the Saints would be on the hook for 8m:
"The only fully guaranteed portion of the contract is his $8 million signing bonus and 2017 base salary."

They can recoup the signing bonus as well. As previously mentioned, I suspect they will come up with an inuury settlement.
