Fans act like teams rebuild in 2-3 years and become contenders.

Some teams rebuild for 10 years or more.

I won't be mad that a franchise is trying to win

Agreed. And look, I was all for tearing it down just to get rid of DA. But there are scenarios where we can win with him and Carr. It’s so strange to me to where posters, outside of SFP and St Aug, that seem like they actively want to see DA and Carr fail.

But also, tearing it down isn’t as easy as sucking for 2-3 years and then the roster is miraculously better and we get a great QB and great HC to pair him with. If it was so damn easy, the Jets, Jags, Lions and Browns wouldn’t have been the laughing stock of the NFL for years. Also sucking for 2-3 years at minimum, also means guys like Loomis, Khai, and Ireland would no longer be here

The Saints are now last season's Bucs. They may limp to the playoffs in the worst division in football where they'll promptly get annihilated by a competent team.

The Saints of last year were last season's Bucs. We are a Mark Ingram yard away from winning the division with Dalton.

Good thing the road goes on in perpetuity with an increasing cap every year

Every year we create more Taysom Hill contracts that we cannot do anything with except kick the can down the road

Hill was one contract that brought value, ironically one you shite on.

And we just lost one of our "hits" in the draft b/c we couldn't afford him due to our cap manipulation.

We're likely going to lose another former 1st rounder this year that we can't fit into our cap.

That’s rich. You’d be here bitching about their new “Taysom Hill contracts” and how GJ is slot CB getting paid like a top safety and Davenport’s contract didn’t match the production.

quote:

We're missing a top-10 pick this year and a 2nd next year

Make a general journal entry that accounts for the two 1s last year and the recouped picks from CSP. Ya it ended up being 1.10 but in order to moss the pain you would’ve had to miss the dance

quote:

Once we restructure his $30M base next year, his cap hits will be.

Let’s just see what happens, you’re making a bunch of assumptions on certain players and passing it off as being factual

Honestly, I think a superbowl or bust mentality is extremely toxic and unrealistic. If the Saints are a consistent playoff team that wins a game or two, but rarely, if ever, makes it to another superbowl, I wouldn’t hate that. I just don’t want to go back to consistent losing records and long playoff droughts.

But there are 2 major issues

1. Your dead cap limits you. Again, we have not re-signed all of our young drafted talent since we started this dance in 2018. If we didn't have the dead cap concerns, we'd have Marcus Williams instead of the corpse of Maye and Mathieu.

2. If you accept fighting with 1 arm tied behind your back (due to #1), this can all come crashing down with an unexpected serious injury, retirement, or terrible signing.

3. We have a couple of guys we cannot really do anything with and may have added to them last year (once we restructured Mathieu and Maye). Those guys aren't even dead cap hits but they eat up your cap, too, and we can't cut them. Peat is on deck for this if we don't cut him and convert his base to signing bonus.

Hill was one contract that brought value

Hill has been seriously overpaid and a huge cap liability since he got his big deal. Now we can't get rid of him.

Marcus Williams, bruv.

quote:

and Davenport’s contract didn’t match the production.

Then you're criticizing the draft model

I was always against overpaying to over-draft Davenport, but he's at least good. We don't have a replacement, either (unless Turner has been hiding something great for 2 years). Losing Davenport, with all of his flaws and issues, creates a major hole on our team's strength (defense).

quote:

Let’s just see what happens

We're already projected like 84M over the 2024 cap.

David Carr will not have a cap hit above $30M on the 2024 cap. How much do you want to bet me?

Arguably Archie, but it’s difficult to compare that era. Plus, Archie’s o-line was a turnstile.

Aaron Brooks is the second best Saints QB all-time. Let that sink in.

No one likes dead cap but it’s inevitable to varying degrees. And no one ever resigns all of their picks, especially when you draft as well as we have. Let’s not be disingenuous

He accounted for 11 TDs and had the 3rd most yards from scrimmage in his first year in the new role. Again, wrong.

His contract is fine and won’t heavily escalate without being under center

None of this exists in a vacuum, that’s where you frick up

it’s not a hill I’m dying on bubba. My main point is that things can happen in the draft and next season that dictate the future at the position

I'm genuinely curious, why does it seem more fans care about the salary cap then management? Management doesn't seem to give a shite about the cap or dead money.

It's been said many times that management also doesn't think the Saints financials work unless they win.

Seems like Saints management feels they have to much invested in a pretty good roster to give up and tank.

Where is this pretty good roster? Cause this team has missed the playoffs the last two years. Good teams don't do that. Our best players are getting old. Our cap situation is beyond fricked. Our coach sucks, we got an average to below-average quarterback to lead this franchise. This roster ain't competing for anything outside this division and that's only because it's historically bad.

To be honest if we are a 10 win team this year and with those extra picks if we are fortunate to have a draft even close to the 2017 draft we will be superbowl caliber on defense with a 2021 Rams like offensive

Well the saint haven’t won the ship since 09 . It’s been countless heartbreaking ends to seasons that started with sky high expectations…
Having lower expectations going into the season and having unexpected success would be a nice change up. Purgatory indicates good things will eventually come. Whatever. Who dat

A point so many refuse to acknowledge.

Werner, Adebo, Taylor are a few that come to mind that allow us to let players like Ceedy go and Ellis if we can’t resign him.

Davenport can be replaced in the draft. So can Ony. I like getting our QB and letting the young talent that are on rookie contracts get a chance before I melt down.

Maybe I’m just getting older and am not financially involved since I gave up my tix so I’m a bit more meh… just entertain me on Sundays.

I have followed the Saints since 1978. I experienced the Saints winning a super bowl Championship. I don’t expect to see the organization to win another in my lifetime. The NFL just doesn’t move me emotionally like it did when I was young.
