FWIW, I think Payton coaches through his contact and then retires. But this is concerning

What exactly is concerning? Him coaching out his contract and retiring? He’ll be like 65 at the time. I’d retire also and live my life.

the whole premise of Lombardi's idea is him being in the last year of his deal...Which is why he would sit out.

Which he is obviously wrong about. Payton would have to sit out 2 years, not 1 like Lombardi suggests.

The clip on his Twitter seems like he's throwing out retirement as a new angle on Payton to Dallas rumors. Meh.

Same old shite when it’s contract renewal time

90% of Saints fans are 100% gullible

I’m going to Dallas

I’m going to the Giants

I’m moving the team to San Antonio

I’m moving the team to Birmingham

If he retired would his contract be voided and could go to the Cowboys after 1 year off?

Same, there are now multiple people in the league saying this

Question is are there multiple people from Payton’s Inner circle or the team saying this; or did someone float out an idea (think it was a SI article) and multiple people are using it as their source?

The Cowboys would have to trade the Saints for the rights to his contract or the Saints would have to void the remainder.

Just like how Brees would not have been able to play for any other team if he unretired midseason.

Eventually they will get it right, which is why they keep trotting this rumor out every offseason

Mike Lombardi is notorious for making this game up. This is just another pathetic attempt by a media member.

People love the idea of Payton leaving NOLA because they hate that a top 3 coach is "wasting" his time in a small market (or they're fans & jealous that our coach is better). Lombardi is barely a step above La Canfora these days. Nothing to see here

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones all but ended any speculation about coach Mike McCarthy's job status on Monday.

Asked by 105.3 The Fan in Dallas a day after the Cowboys' season ended with a wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers whether he was confident McCarthy would continue to lead the team in 2022, Jones said, "Absolutely. Very confident."

It was the best he'd looked but it was also like 3 drives against a team that had packed it in. If Taysom is the starting QB wk 1 next year we've wasted another season.

I seriously doubt that Taysom will be ready & available to go by week 1 for QB or his jack of all trades role.
