I don’t think Payton leaves for another team. But if they don’t make a move for a QB Payton can invest in then he might retire before the end of his contract. I think this season burned him out. I think he put a lot more into it because he wanted to prove he could win without Brees.

But I think it’s clear this season wore him down with injuries and despite how well Jameis played at times, I don’t think Payton is invested in him or mentoring him during the twilight of his coaching career. Back in his heyday, Payton would have accepted the challenge. I really think we go hard after Wilson or we make a move to take a QB in the draft

What objective facts are you relying on when you say you “think” and it’s “clear” it wore him down ?

All of these people keep saying it's the last year of his contract.

That's just not true. I don't get why people keep reporting this.

The whole basis for this “report” is the still incorrect thought that Payton is entering the last year of his contract. He is not! It’s just stupid and lazy to put this out when your whole premise is incorrect. Just one more dumbass trying to get Payton to the Cowboys started up again. Ignore this please.

THANK YOU!

he's under contract through the 2024 season. Every report has this "oh this is the last year of his deal, can he get out of it??" line and it's just blatant misinformation.

Clear wasn’t the right word but I do think it wore him down. Why else would there be so much smoke around him leaving? Earlier this year there was the reports about Chicago going after him (ludicrous) but that he probably wouldn’t take it and would rather just retire and go work for TV, which he is seemingly interested in. Rumors are several networks are going to throw big money at him. I wasn’t worried before but now I’m genuinely concerned he might say frick it and take a year off and go broadcast. And if he likes it, he’s gone forever. If he doesn’t, he might come back and coach.

Granted, I think Lombardi is full of shite because he even got the fact that Payton is under contract for only one more year wrong. But this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Payton leaving, retiring or taking a year off this season. His camp is clearly leaking things from an otherwise tight lipped guy. And he has no motivation for leaking it other than to put some pressure on Mickey and Ireland (if he stays) to get him Wilson or another QB other than Winston. Something to invest in

I think he’s under contract until 2026.

FWIW, I think Payton coaches through his contact and then retires. But this is concerning

Payton doesn't seem like the type of guy to retire for a year and then come back a year later.

Lombardi does get good info sometimes but this seems like a stretch.

This is Payton's way of telling Loomis, "Get me Russell Wilson." Se

First of all they tried to move up for mac jones.

Secondly he could just tell loomis. They have a great relationship.

Sean isn’t going to coach another team. Period. End of discussion.

If he’s burnt out and wants to try tv, that’s plausible I guess.

I mean he didn’t even say that he heard Payton wanted to retire. It’s his speculation based on speculation from other coaches that Sean might retire.

Lombardi speculates Payton may take a year off and come back into the league
He didnt state it as a fact, just as rumors he is hearing

Lombardi threw this garbage out there as just another disguised Payton to Dallas rumor because of how the Cowboys lost yesterday & the heat McCarthy is getting for the Cowboys sloppy play & final play call.

The basis behind these constant rumors make no sense whatsoever.

Payton is supposed to be burnt out yet he is going to sit out a year & go to high pressure environments like Dallas or NYC where the media & fan pressure is enormous.

Not to mention Payton has a certain control within the Saints organization that he definitely won't have in Dallas & may not get with the Giants. He also enjoys being able to have the media at a distance & not provide outside noise to his lockeroom. You can forget about that in both Dallas & NYC where every small incident gets blown up by both the local & national media. That would drive Payton absolutely nuts. Everyone of these "articles" are click bait to create likes & shares to get more traffic & advertising money.

I enjoy the GM shuffle pod with Lombardi but like anyone else you cannot take his word as all gold.

Payton also doesn't seem like the kind of guy kind of like what you're saying and who likes noises from the outside and distraction.

I don't think he floated these rumors I think it's just people speculating.

It's just that time of year.

Hopefully there isn't anything more to it than that.

the whole premise of Lombardi's idea is him being in the last year of his deal...Which is why he would sit out. I don't think it holds a ton of water after hearing the clip
