I always figured they wouldn't renew because I remember hearing that whoever at Mercedez Benz made this deal was fired or something for making such a poor deal on their end. Could be completely off base though

The media had a hard time going from Louisiana Superdome or Superdome to Mercedes Benz Superdome. It will always be a hard sell for that reason alone.

Maybe Moderna will spend some of that sweet vaccine cash.

That's somewhat true from what I recall. I think it was more because he did the deal with us at all, because Atl got more money than we did off the deal on both per year and total.
I think it was more the market size thing.
Also the thing about people still just saying Superdome was also a big deal because so many people, both local and national, skipped right over the Mercedes part.

I would like to point out that the CenturyLink HQ in Monroe Louisiana is closer to New Orleans than Seattle, but they have never inquired about naming rights to the Superdome, even after their deal with Seattle expired last season. In 2020 they signed an extension for $9m a year naming rights with seattle until 2033 - and a deal with Louisiana for $17.5 in tax breaks.

Maybe the new vaccine czar can pay for it with all that $$ he instantaneously made on Moderna within a day of taking the job
