Mel Kiper is a moron. There is a reason he’s not in a front office. This is the same company that treats Stephen A Smith as an expert.

He also said the saints trading up to draft Kamara was a reach.

Mel Kiper would probably be a shitty GM.

Loomis straight up said he was trying to move up in the top 10 after the draft. Even mentioned the Broncos as one of the teams he was trying to move up with

Not sure about “tried like hell” but they did try. I’m happy they showed restraint and didn’t cave in to whatever high demands it would have taken for them to move up.

And a jump from 28 to 10...can’t imagine what that would have cost us.

The quote I was replying to said they were trying like hell to give away 2022 picks. I am not sure they were trying to give away 2022 picks. And we'll never actually know.

Kiper: “If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done. That’s it. I’m out.”

Found this gem from Kiper regarding Clausen. Too bad he didn’t follow through on his promise

If you were trying to move up from 28 to top 10 then you were without a doubt going to give up 2022 picks. If not then there was no reason to even waste your time to pick up the phone and call

I'm not so sure about that, you can trade more than just future draft picks. And if the only way the trade gets done is with future draft picks, but the trade didn't get done... wouldn't that insinuate that future draft picks weren't available?

Doesn't matter either way, since it didn't happen.

True they could have been offloading a player. That’s a good point.

Dude you not moving up from 28 to 10 without giving up a 1st next year and probably slot more. Probably a 2nd and a third. It would be a Julio jones type trade. Look up the compensation for that and it would be similar.

Saints probably didn’t want to give up that much esp knowing the qb situation next year is a complete unknown.

I mean why would anyone take this seriously when the QB that Mel would have taken didn’t even get drafted?

Yet many on this board will bash a pick because some internet blogger's mock did not have the player in the 1st round. Many do not understand that the teams do not rely on the media or internet to value/scout the players.

“If the Lions pass on (Brady) Quinn, it would be yet another in a long line of questionable decisions,” said Mel Kiper. “I think they will, although not for (Calvin) Johnson. They'll take Clemson DE Gaines Adams, a Simeon Rice-type edge rusher. For the same reasons the Lions should take Quinn, Cleveland actually will. They need a franchise face.” - Mel Kiper

“Wes Welker is not worth a second round pick,” said Kiper. “I don’t care how much you like his work ethic, he has done nothing to show a value that high.”

Mel Kiper gave the Seattle Seahawks a C-Minus grade for drafting Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson in 2012. He also gave them a D+ grade to the 2011 class that featured Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, and Super Bowl XLVIII MVP Malcolm Smith.

The #1 ESPN draft talking head, self-proclaimed expert is no different then any other. They don’t have a clue. It takes a few years before you can grade any draft class. Save these rankings & let’s revisit down the road.

Kiper is an asshat. Oh yeah, he also pockets money from agents to bump players up draft boards.

No, it insinuates the lions wanted way too much for their pick.
The broncos didn't want to move all the way back to 28.

This was a really weird draft.
I wish the saints would've gotten a better corner but im glad they kept all their ammo.

I don't know what you're arguing here. I'm saying I don't think the Saints were trying to part with their future picks. You're saying the Lions were asking for too much. You're just rephrasing my point and then agreeing with it.

You have no idea what the Broncos wanted to do or were thinking. Hell, they've been linked to a deal for Aaron Rodgers since Thursday, so maybe they changed direction in hopes of landing a deal with Green Bay once news broke.

The 2022 draft picks are much more valuable than the average "future draft pick". The Saints have never been shy about trading future draft picks, but this year they kept their full compliment of 2022 picks.

Kiper is one of the main reasons the Draft has become the media production it has become and one of the main reasons there are so many draft "pundits" now.
