Big info drop here from Josina Anderson:

quote:

@JosinaAnderson
A league source tells me some of the questions surrounding Mike McCarthy and the #Saints head coach vacancy (ever since he became a free agent) have involved sentiments over the power structure & communication when it comes to football decisions, length of contract, etc.--similar to the situation in Dallas.

Obviously, McCarthy is very tenured and accomplished. It's not hard to surmise where he'd likely expect due respect. Everything has its own weight and impact on talks. Adding that note for context towards what eventually happens in New Orleans.

Additionally, a lot of league perspectives have been given as to what owner Gayle Benson should do when it comes to operations in her building in the future. I'll leave it at that for now.

Loomis "You have no power here"

Good luck with that Mike

To me it reads like it means that Gayle is getting calls from other owners telling her to cut ties with Mickey. I could be wrong, but that's how it reads. Josina is trying not to nuke Mickey from orbit and is holding back saying that explicitly.

Reading it a few times, I think that is what it means.

Or she sought outside counsel form the league office (which they can do, by the way), and has gotten outside perspective that says change is needed

It means that other people who cover the league are saying this; meaning other members of the media.

If it were people inside teams, she would have said "league sources"

I'm not sure that is what it means. "League perspectives" seems to me people inside the league

I take it to mean she reads the ignorant posts on Saints Talk crying for Gayle to sell the team.

Josina did an absolutely horrendous fricking job making that clear then. I can’t fricking stand reporting today. Everything is ambiguous to drive clicks when they literally teach you to NOT be ambiguous in college when going through journalism. I know because I have a degree in that useless profession

I don't think it's a newsbreaker to say that Loomis is on the tail end of his tenure here. He is 67 and been at it over 20 years, so the end is near regardless of how the end is achieved. I'm sure that's coming up in these interviews and I'm sure many of the candidates want a say on that change whenever it is to happen.

Loomis is the problem bc he’s both shown with his actions and straight up denies the elephant in the room in his pressor which is that a complete rebuild is necessary. Aging vets and clear mismanagement of the cap is evident. Wash it down with watching players you drafted (and had on practice squads) become all-pro means you don’t even know what you have when you have it talent wise.

Thank you for your services Mickey. You helped bring us a SB. But it’s time for change.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it's all true, I just don't buy it when it comes from her and she starts with "a league source"

For the life of me, I don't understand why Mickey hasn't lobbied himself to move to the Rich McKay role as President of the Saints and promote Khai or Ireland as the real GM.

to me this says, media and league execs are talking to Josina about our fricked up power structure.

Gayle is likely still oblivious to it all

Ego. I heard him say that he had no thought of retiring, and he would never even consider such a thing until the Saints were back on top

Duncan was giving an interview last week and basically said Loomis won't be fired and he's not stepping aside until he feels like he's righted the ship....soooooooo not great....not great
