Mark Ingram: I can do the same things Le’Veon Bell, David Johnson do

During running back Mark Ingram‘s time with the Saints, he has split backfield duties with a variety of backs and he’s set to do so again this year with Adrian Peterson joining the team.
Ingram has not shared any displeasure about that arrangement and said that the two backs have helped each other since they began working together this spring. That doesn’t mean Ingram feels he’s incapable of being in a bigger role than the one he has played for the Saints.

“I just want to keep proving that I’m the best complete back in this game,” Ingram said, via Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. “You know Le'Veon Bell, David Johnson, I feel like I can do the same thing that those guys do, given the opportunity. So that’s my mindset, that’s my goal. I want to be the best back in this league. That’s what I come out here and work for every single day.”
As Ingram said, he’s not likely to get the same workload as the other two backs, but his 96 catches over the last two years and ability to chip in as a pass protector when needed are both valuable things to bring to the Saints offense. In fact, Triplett reports that the passing game is where Ingram “has excelled at the most” during training camp and continued success there should leave him with a good chance of being the most-used back in New Orleans.

He must think he's in a halo video game

Yeah, and I ball like Michael Jordan.

Mark Ingram is a top 8 back in this league.
Problem has been staying healthy for 16 games and consistency.
He shares the load but he's been becomingly quite effective and diverse.
What AD brings to the competition remains to be seen but Mark Ingram is a top 8 back in the league.

Did I miss him being proclaimed the best back in the league? I understand the dude works hard and has been good for the saints, but best in the league? That's comical.

Not trying to dampen Ingram's spirit. I don't see it.
Ingram should be grateful if he averages 15-16 touches a game this year.
AP will be featured, AK 41 will play the joker role, and who ever wins 4th RB will also get a few touches.
That is a ton of RB touches to spread around for a Sean Payton offense.
He had every chance to be cement his status as a featured back the last couple seasons but now will be buried in a full blown RBBC.

I'm all for him saying this. He wants to be great, believes he can. Support.

Not really that outlandish to say when you add "given the opportunity".
Volume wise, he's never going to reach them, but if you gave him the same #'s their numbers would come close (Outside of Johnson's receiving #s, that's just ridiculous).
Ingram's last 3 years:
597 carries, 2776 yards, 4.65 YPA
125 receptions, 869 yards, 7.0 AVG
Bell's last 3 years:
664 carries, 3185 yards, 4.80 YPA
182 receptions, 1606 yards, 8.8 AVG
Who am I kidding Mark, you're close but you're obviously tier 2. Nothing wrong with that, but if it keeps driving him than that's better than someone being okay with just being 2nd best.

Damn some bitter folks in this thread. This is what you want any pro player to say.

I'm sorry but if I have any football player strap on a helmet for me not believing he can be the best in the league at his position he can hit the door.
Really we are going to laugh at a guy that believes in himself and wants to be the best. What an a-hole way to live.

I really don't know why we don't use him in the passing game more.
Dude has very good hands.

I see nothing wrong with what he said - he is using them as the benchmark to push himself to improve - besides he also said given the opportunity - which he is not always given.

well in my opinion, you and your opinion are completely full of shite

tGOAT running back in Saints history. Anyone sleeping on the MI/AP combo is in for a rude awakening in a little over a month. Add in AK and that is easily one of, if not the, best backfields in the NFL.

Top 8 in the league, are you joking? Maybe top 30.
