Make up refined stats? Int and passes defended? These are plays when the player touches the ball

15 int and 38 PD

Who are you top 3 ball hawking safeties?

Marcus Williams is pretty underrated on this board. It is a big loss. He was a key way that we were able to keep everything in front of us and allowed other DBs to creep up in run support.

He was key in preventing us winning multiple Super Bowls

And he’s only 25. He was doing it as one of the youngest players in his draft class

But for the missed tackle his career highlight here would have been the interception to get us back in the game, or Kittle stiff arming him into Hades.

you are literally combining stats to prop up his average interception numbers. Its not complicated.

He's a brilliant FS, but turnovers are NOT his strong suit. This shouldnt even be agued.

If you are talking about int's, which is what I was addressing when you responded to me originally, Probably Q Diggs, Byard, and maybe Justin Simmons off the top of my head. Certainly not MW.

I know a lot of you love this guy, but I just don’t see it.

I never forgave him for that poor excuse for an attempted tackle in Minnesota. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on the take. That’s how bad it was.

He seems to be a player who is frequently praised for “unnoticed” plays, and people on this board seem to have really bought into that narrative. All I’m saying is I would have liked him to be “noticed” more for good plays on the ball, or plays in key situations.

Glad he got paid. Not sad to see him go. He was here for a while and I hardly knew him.

This isn't true.
They would call him a cock-sucking bridge- builder.

How quickly Saints fans forget teams putting up 40 burgers on us consistently. Williams is no Ed Reed, but he is the ultimate center fielder. Teams weren't throwing deep on us constantly because Williams was there. He had his fair share of whiffs, but he is going to be hard to replace.

Yup. The board is gonna be begging for him to come back next season if the position is not addressed.

Tough blow to our elite defense.

You realize we can all look this shite up, right?

He wasnt even top 20 among safeties last year in int's. He fell outside of the top 10 the year before. He didnt even lead his team team in int's either of those years. shite, he wasnt even the interception leader at safety for the Saints either of those 2 years. That was Malcom and CJGJ.

stop trying to make him something he isnt, and just respect who he was.

Right

His coverage grade is in the 90th percentile and he has the league’s highest forced-incompletion rate since he came into the league. He’s going to hard to replace

Did you even read the original post you are replying to?

He came into the league in 2017. I didn’t say anything about last year or the year before

The one that said 15 interceptions over 5 seasons isnt a ton for a top flite FS? yes. And his turnover numbers have regressed the last 2 seasons.

And remember, you addressed MY post specifically about picks - not return yards or passes defensed. stay on topic.

But just t make sure you dont try to twist my words, I want to make it clear that I love his game, and even though he was an average turnover guy and had a few WTF tackles, he did everything else really well. He deserves top 5 safety money and I wish he would have gotten that.

He was a very good safety though, wish him well.

If you think about it, nobody really threw over the top on the saints

Williams is going to be tough to replace. I wouldn't be surprised if they go safety in round 2 or 3.

Still stumps me why they didn't tag him. They must have other plans.

They tagged him last year and a second year tag is insane expensive.

Ok. As long as you acknowledge only 6 other safeties have more picks.

I brought up passes defensed bc PFF literally has a stat called ball hawk % that includes that statistic. Guess who ranks near the top

You are attempting to frame the guy as not being around the ball when he’s literally around the ball more than nearly every starting safety, both strong and free, in the league. I guess we can call it your wrong opinion bc you are factually incorrect

Over his career? Yes. That puts him just outside of the top 10th percentile for NFL safeties making interceptions. #turnovermachine
