I know a lot of you love this guy, but I just don’t see it.
One of the things having a guy like Williams is you don't often see it b/c he scares QBs from making throws and allows more aggressive man D.

Not sad to see him go.
You likely will be when we can't play as aggressive of man and give up big plays at the same time...while we pay Jenkins a mint instead

Williams is a really good player, but replaceable. The Saints didn’t ask him to be a great tackler (he was average at best there) and the pass rush allowed him to roam more free.
I know a bunch of people want to give him all the credit, but our defense improved because our slime pressure exploded. We sucked at getting pressure outside of Jordan for a long time. That is what led to horrible safety play and it was when that was fixed that the defense improved.
If anything, a converted ball hawking CB could replace most of Williams value. Easy? No. But his loss is easier to replace than losing a major pass rush player.

Should have let him go last year and spent our cap money on Hendrickson instead.

That was the oddest play I've ever saw. He just ran beside him
If you've watched all of the Saints games, you've seen him take that super passive angle multiple times.

Tebbible ball skills for a Free Safety
No...it's the opposite of that. He had good ball skills...but whatever the word is for skills to take angles to a runner and make a tackle he has none of.

Disagree
Williams "created" pass rush by making QBs hold the ball longer.

That was a lapse in judgment. He was worrying about the cutback bc he was all alone obviously.
Pollard was up to full speed with Williams 20 yds away. Tough play in the moment.
You live and you learn.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on the take. That’s how bad it was.
I don't think he was on the take...but he's had several plays that looked like he was on the take.

Well he guaranteed the result he was worried about.

I do not think he isn’t replaceable, nor do I give him all the credit
Funny Cam Jordan has been in the league since 2011 and his 4 best sack years came in ‘17, ‘18, ‘19 and ‘21. After we drafted Lattimore and Williams in 2017 and started really investing in the secondary.
2014 saints - 34 sacks
2015 saints - 31 sacks
2016 saints - 30 sacks
2017* saints - 42 sacks
2018 saints - 49 sacks
2019 saints - 51 sacks
2020 saints - 45 sacks
2021 saints - 46 sacks
One could try and sell ya on the importance of being able to cover as it relates to the pass rush. Not me but one may try and sell ya on that. Some good quotes out there from Cam, DA, CSP on the importance of the secondary
