Marcus Davenport had his left pinky partially amputated this off-season. He had an infection as a result of a broken plate stemming from an injury in college. He also had two surgeries on his right shoulder.

Been a pretty eventful off-season for Davenport! He is expecting his third child (first daughter) in July. He seems pretty upbeat considering the circumstances. Said he didn’t think missing part of the finger would bother him on the field, since it was already kind of disabled

hopefully he's fully healed and the nagging stuff got fixed.

I always wondered with the way he got nicked up early and often, he never got things fully addressed and kept playing half injured til it got so bad he had to sit out.

If JPP can blow off half his had and still play, I think Davenport will be fine

Yikes! Hopefully he'll fully recover and adapt to the amputation. Jason Pierre-Paul has functioned at a high level after losing multiple fingers. Let's hope that Marcus can do the same.

left pinky partially amputated

Ronnie Lott says hello.

Hurt his pinkie in the last game of the regular season. Had it cut off before the wildcard game. Still played in the game.

Edit to add: He did say this when he took the cast off after they lost the game.

quote:

“I was trying to laugh it off, but I felt sick,” he told the Associated Press in 1986. “I tried to stand up, but I broke into a cold sweat. It was just a total shock. I thought, ‘Oh, man, I should have had the pin put in.’… We are losing the compassionate side of sports. We’re becoming gladiators. If I ever become a coach, I hope I never lose sight of the fact that players are people. They feel. They have emotions. I could have all of Eddie DeBartolo’s corporations and it isn’t going to buy me a new finger. It has given me a new perspective on life.”

Comparable to the likes of a young Reggie White.

The shoulder is more concerning. Let's see if he starts the season.

Sad part is he’s a an absolute beast when he can actually stay on the field. If I were the Saints I would think about taking a calculated risk and offering him a 3 year extension and seeing if he signs for a discount hoping he outplays the deal versus having him actually stay healthy this year and put up a huge season then cashing in like Hendrickson did.
