They absolutely let Tom walk to save money and go with a cheaper option in Cam. Didn't say he was more talented, just that he lets players go to go with cheaper options.

if he couldn't look competent with Belichick, what makes you think he'll even look halfway competent with Allen?
Jones is a shitbag person, and a very subpar QB... i'd take Jameis, who i'm not a huge fan of by any means, every day of the week over Jones

For someone who was dead set on the Taysom can be a starting QB in the NFL theory, I wouldn’t be opposed to this with one caveat. Run an offense very similar to what Philly uses with Hurts. To be honest that’s probably just as preferable as running it back with Dalton and Taysom in isolated situations. But clearly not a long term fix.

Guess it's according to what year you judge him on. He was good last year, but poor this season. As a state fan, I know this is what dak did in year 1 and year 2; dak obviously righted the ship again in year 3, and he's been solid since. Who knows if mac will do the same?

Or they think Zappe is just as good and Jones will likely return them more value with a first round pedigree. I don’t really care if Jones is an average game manager at this point. I’d very willingly give up a mid round pick up to a 3rd rounder to have a cost controlled game manager while we get healthy via the cap.
We’re not doing anything great or special with jones, Dalton, Carr, taysom or whoever is available so I want cheap while our cap gets healthier. At least with a young guy you can hope he improves while on a cost controlled deal. Half this board wants to dump a shitload of money on Carr and he sucked last year with arguably the best wide receiver in the nfl and a 2k total yard back last year.

I think I would prefer spending a 3rd on Jones over a big contract for carr. Maybe jones finds his rookie level game again

Lets don't link things together....You are making a decision on Jones...not a choice between him and others like Carr.
I have no doubt that the Pats like Zappe, but why give up on a 1st rounder so fast and you could keep both on the cheap.
Feeling is that Jones will not conform and play the system that Bellichek wants to play.
Example 3rd and 8. Take the check down for 3-4 yards and then punt. Jones wants to make the 15 yard throw that gets intercepted.

Belichick put some defensive coach BBQ buddies in charge of his promising 2nd year QB. Allen sucks but he's smart enough not to do that.

The shitbag part what's most concerning. He wasn't a huge recruit and sat the bench at Bama for a long time so it's weird that people talk about him having a sense of entitlement.

I strongly encourage anyone who holds such an ignorant opinion to read the article the Boston Herald released a few weeks ago about just how terrible the scheme and offensive culture were in New England last year. It was a D-list offense with very few unique plays relative.

And on the same board we have people saying hard pass on Mac Jones
I’d take Mac Jones in a heartbeat. His story is still being written. He still has upside and potential.
I don’t love that he was being a piss ant last year, but he had a frickin D coordinator calling offensive plays. He also has never had a decent receiver. I’d be mad too if my career was being played with like that. And I was expected to be okay with it bc Belichek is my coach.
The Patriots have basically built around Mac Jones, how the media expected the Bengals to build around Burrow when they said he should refuse to get drafted to Cincy.

I’d take Mac over some of the top QBs in this draft. He’s still young enough to where you don’t know what he will become. But he fits what the saints like to run.
I do remember reading that the Bama receivers that played with and Tua thought he was the better qb. So that’s encouraging.

Honestly, I'd just rather roll with Taysom than any of these QB's being mentioned. It's not like we're winning the Superbowl next season. Design and call an offense around Taysom and lets roll. At least it would be fun to watch.
