He was really solid as a rookie, and really bad in year 2. I know he has some injury issues this season... could they be the explanation?

If we miss on carr, I wouldn't hate taking a shot on baker, mac Jones, or even Zach Wilson. All have some pedigree and still young, and all would probably be relatively cheap. If it fails, we should be in a good spot to trade up and get a guy next year

ETA... jalen hurts sucked till his 3rd season.

I like him better than any of the other free agents after Carr. Hell, if we miss on Carr, I'd just as soon roll with Taysom rather than Dalton, Mayfield, Garoppolo, etc.

Don’t want to give up assets for a QB when we need to be rebuilding. As another poster pointed out, had a big drop off after rookie year. Injury? Or was it because other teams had tape on him?

I’d also be wary of bringing in a guy that Belicheck is giving up on when no one here as any faith in our coaching staff

I agree with some of that. I really am not looking to give up one of the few remaining resources we have for serviceable at best. We need to be cutting salary cap and stock piling draft picks. Rebuild the team around a great QB. Watching the playoffs this year there are lots of young QB's on the best teams. If we don't have high draft picks now spend what you have rebuilding the trenches.

All depends on the price. You’d have him on 3 cheap years I believe which would be ideal.

I mean I would give them like a 5th or 6th to bring him in and compete but I ain’t hitching my wagon to him.

What didn't help is the Patriots didn't have an actual OC and no real plan for the offense. Structure helps, but no clue if Mac can be the guy.

Yesh! The thought of having Mac Jones at QB makes me want to pay David Carr $30-35M. I’d rather trade for Taylor Heinicke.

Now ask yourself. All that is true, so why is New England willing to trade the guy. They know he has hit the ceiling.

If they were looking to trade him after signing Rodgers or Carr then that would be a different story.

Depends on what they want for him. A 4th or below sure I’ll take that chance but I’m not giving him any of my top 3 round picks. Mac also supposedly is hard to deal with which is a big reason they played Zappe who is the better player so Mac should be pretty cheap for a team in trade. He lit it up that year at Bama but he had a ridiculous WR corp in Waddle, Smith, Ruggs and Juedy.

Respectfully, most anyone would be hard to deal with in his position.

You're a second year quarterback and you get gifted 2 failed head coaches - neither of which have offensive backgrounds - to construct an offense in what is a crucial year for your development. Further, you look around the league at what other teams are doing for their young QBs and putting talent around them: Bengals, Dolphins, Jaguars, even the Jets. Meanwhile, you're over here with Jakobi Meyers as your top receiving option and 2 milquetoast TE as your best weapons.

Mac wasn't innocent in the way things turned out in NE last year but frick me, the Patriots have shite the bed as far as offensive skill personnel. Their WR room is worse than the Saints and that's saying something.

Bill Belicheck has made a career of sending guys out to pasture and going with the next guy to save some money. He's hit on a lot of them, but sometimes he's wrong (see: Tom Brady for Cam Newton)

I'd be interested for the right price. I'd be REALLY interested if they cut him, which is unlikely.
