Listen if he doesn’t overperform his college stats he’s at best a WR2 quality WR.

And we just traded a frick ton of picks to take him.

You’re cool with that?

Garret Wilson at best would've been the Saints #2 Wide Receiver, Jameson Williams at best would've been the Saints #2 Wide receiver. Drake London at best would've been the Saints #2 Wide receiver. The Saints absolutely needed another receiver that could perform in this draft. They moved up to get the receiver they wanted after Drake London and Garret Wilson were taken with the 8th and the 10th picks in the draft. Washington was picking at #11 and chose a receiver with the pick we traded them at 16. Detroit chose a receiver at #12. They moved up because they knew the receiver they wanted was going to be taken by Washington or Detroit. Arguing that he's at best a #2 receiver in his NFL career is pure speculation. You have no fricking clue what he's going to do in the NFL. Secondly you said he's not as good as players that haven't done a thing in the NFL.

If the other 31 teams draft just Big 10 defenses from 2021 that might work out. But generally the NFL is a step up. You see any Big 10 CBs taken in the first last night?

Closest thing was Daxton Hill who mostly played safety but is a hybrid corner/safety. Wasn’t arguing big 10 defenses. Was simply performing math

Smith played 13 games and had 148 targets
Jefferson played 15 games and had 134 targets
Chase played 14 games and had 128 targets

Olave played 11 games with 103 targets and you’re really trying to hammer home these volume counting stats huh? This is some big ranter energy

The majority of good WRs either put up insane numbers in college or you can say see an obvious reason why they didn’t.

What constitutes an insane season? You have to look at games played not just the end stats. He was on a tear the Covid year where he only played 7 games. Had a solid season his senior year even though his pace wasn’t as high as his junior. Ohio state was also stacked at receiver with three excellent guys.

It’s fine to be the saints #2 wr because Thomas is an elite reciver

But can Olave be a High End WR1 if Thomas goes down or goes diva and demands a trade? This was the 11th pick overall. Trading up to draft for need because there was about to be a run in a bad WR class seems like a shortsighted move.

Sure he could always over perform his college play in the NFL.

Why do you think he will?

Also it’s insanely frustrating that all of a sudden we realize we need WRs after passing on Pittman, Higgins and Aiyuk in 2020 for Ruiz and then Elijah Moore last year.

Hell if we’re leveraging future picks to live up we could have Gotten Jefferson in 2020.

Did you see Jeffrey Okudah who was his teammate and who he practiced against go #3 in the draft last year? Lol in your mind all of these other receivers are great #1 wide receivers in the NFL based on their ability in college. But Olave did it against the Big 10. Lol

Because he’s the most polished route runner, runs a 4.39. The only flaws he has is that he struggled against press because he’s still slender. But he’s got the frame to add to his weight. If he adds 10-15 pounds in a couple of years time, he absolutely could be a WR1.

Terry McLaurin is a good comp for Olave. Similar measurables but McLaurin had horrible production at Ohio State compared to Olave. He went in the third round but would definitely go in the first in a redraft of that year. You trying to tell me you wouldn’t take Terry McLaurin as our WR2?

And he averaged 14.5 YPC the last two season with those traits in college. so why does that translate I. The NFL but not at OSU?

Because YAC has way more to do with play strength than speed and route running ability.

Look at Thomas his first year here. He was kind of slow for a rookie WR, still is, and wasn’t nearly as polished as a route runner, yet he was great and still is great after the catch. It’s because he’s strong as shite. Olave can get there. YAC has little to do with route running and speed as it does vision and strength. Both of which he can be improved

His junior year he had 50 receptions for 729 yards and 7 tds in 7 games for Ohio state. Over 13 games that comes out to 1,354 and 13 tds. Through a 15 game season like Smith and Ja'marr Chase had that's 1562 yards and 15 tds.

That looks similar to what Chase, Smith. Jefferson, Njigba, Wilson, Lamb, etc put up in their best college seasons. It's just funny. Apparently he's not a #1 receiver, not good enough for the 11th pick, and to trade up for him was a horrible decision. Even though the Saints have needed another option at Receiver for years now.

Speed makes up for literally everything but if your running clean routes and your fast you should have separation. Especially at the college level.

Also I was talking about YPC but his o instead of P

FWIW Thomas is a beast but his YPC is middling. He is just a 130+ reception guy who consistently gets chunks.

Except it doesn’t.

Chase’s best season was 84/1780/20
Jefferson’s was 110/1540/18
Smith was 117/1856/23 and that was actually 14 games.
Smith-Njigba would have had over 1800 yards in 15 games this season

He would still have a lower YPC than any of them.

And I’m comparing him to them because these are the guys playing well in the NFL right now.

Chase and Jefferson are anomalies, putting up historic numbers. You’re putting Olave against numbers hardly any wide receiver can compare to. We don’t need Olave to be Chase or Jefferson for him to be a net positive for the Saints.

Does he need to post some 70/1000/7-8 TD seasons? Yes. And he has that potential. We don’t need him putting up Randy Moss fricking numbers like Jefferson for the trade up to be worth it

Yea man, Devonta Smith's been a baller in the NFL. So has Smith-Njigba.

And you just said 1562 yds and 15 tds isn't similar to 1540 and 18 tds. And that's just taking what Olave averaged in his junior year and applying it to 15 games like Jefferson played in his Junior year.

Olave is more than capable of putting up big numbers in the NFL.

The game flow has been perfect for him to rack up meaningless yards.

He’s a good player but will still need another good WR to play off of. He is the Saints WR1 but he isn’t a WR1.

There is zero physicality to his game. Doesn’t make contested catches. Gives you nothing after the catch.

You can see what he is good at, and that definitely makes him valuable. But will never ever ever be worth what they gave up

How can you say this with certainty? What if they gave up another Chris Naole, Jonathan Sullivan or Sedrick Ellis

So most his targets and yards come while losing on a 4-7 team. Amazing
