Lamar Jackson requests trade. Should we have gone after him over Carr?

Honestly I don’t think either are worth what they want to be paid but Jackson’s running ability would have been fun to watch. I think Jayden Daniels has the potential to be a player like Lamar if he can step up his ability to read a defense and go through his progressions. I wouldn’t mind the Saints drafting him as a project to sit under Carr for a year or two.

JD checks a lot of boxes the pro's want. And we all know what needs work .
I can only guess now that he won't be a 1st round pick. Who knows. Their running styles seem very different and both effective. Lamar runs more like Vick to me and JD runs more like Randall Cunningham.
After 1st round never a bad time to take a shot at a QB you like.

After the dust settles Carr will probably 11-13 highest paid QB, which seems about right. Where do you think he should be on the list?

I see Carr as a middle of the road starter but I just can’t see how that is worth $35 million a year. That’s what the market dictates though. This is why drafting a QB has to be a priority if not this year then next.

The most likely scenario is you probably miss out on Carr and you are up shite creek. Dalton probably still goes to Carolina.
You are basically in a position to where you HAVE to get Jackson which gives you no leverage.
I like Jackson alot and would love to have him here. But if you missed on him we probably end up with Jameis Starting again.

honestly, i think the saints are probably thinking if they were a little more patient they could've gotten it done. hindsight is 20/20 though.

No, they backed out of the Watson deal because they wanted nothing to do with the amount and fully guaranteed contract. Now, Lamar wants more. IMO, that's way too much risk considering everything you have to give up. It'll cost you several picks (most likely 2 1st rounders to start) at a time when you need those draft picks to help dig out of some of these aging contracts. And, while I can see Lamar playing out his next contract, those early 30s can be brutal to a player where speed is a major attribute to their game.
How long do you really have with him being an elite QB? Because based on the cap and draft picks commitment; you better be getting 8-10 years of solid production.

frick no. Lamar’s contract is going to be a franchise killer. He’s a depreciating player who will never be as good as he was when he was on his rookie deal again.

He's still a top QB in the league that just wants to be paid like one, and you can't blame him. I mean Baltimore got a lot of production out of him on that rookie deal you're talking about, he was drastically underpaid. Really, they should have ripped up that rookie deal. Lamar is probably mad at the fact that Watson got that kind of deal with Cleveland and Baltimore won't do that for him, and in his mind he's better than a Watson.

Cleveland is a dumpster fire of an organization, Baltimore is not. Cleveland panicked and overpaid, the Ravens wont do that.
And the whole no agent thing? really stupid. Ever heard that saying "when you play another mans game you end up losing". Lamar is overvaluing what he brings and is playing a game with much more experienced (smarter) people.

Lamar turned down a contract that would give him and his family generational wealth because it wasn't the biggest ever, and that is dumber than dumb.
