I'd like to go back and see what he had to say about the davenport and turner picks.

Davenport was at least a first round talent. I liked Jaire Alexander more that draft but Davenport was getting picked in the first. Not sure what the hell the front office was thinking with Peyton Turner.
Same thing with Book. Haener is a way better prospect in the 4th. Light years better. Hard to trust Ireland if he was behind those two head scratching reaches….
So far, both have turned out exactly like I thought on draft day.

They evaluated a talent that has yet to fill in the blanks. Never heard he was injury prone so I don't think that was a issue for them.
His last chance comes in camp, preseason and the regular season.
Availability will win out this year.

I feel like the coaching staff and front office was trying to prove how smart they are by taking Davenport and Turner. They figure they’d be able to elevate the raw athleticism but couldn’t figure it out.
I like players from big schools with my 1st 9/10 times. I feel like they’re more processed and nuanced and ready for immediate impact.

and they also competed against top tier talent rather than the scrubs from those division 3 or 4 schools

I actually really liked the two ends the Bills drafted that year. I said I’d taken either one before Turner in the draft threads. Rousseau and Boogie Basham. Both have seen more time than Turner on a better defense.
It’s definitely make or break time for Turner this year.

Marcus Davenport was a need the year he was drafted. We needed another guy that could rush the passer and take some attention off of Cam Jordan. Davenport fit the prototype the saints were looking for. Big, long, fast defensive end that could stop the run and pass rush potential. He went as projected and Green Bay wanted him. That is why he costed so much.
Payton Turner was a guy that fit the mold they were looking for and was available at a premium position. Davenport was injured a lot and was still looking to fill that need. Feel like teams took notes on the eagles Super Bowl run who had multiple guys that could rotate in and rush the passer. He was a little bit of a reach and was projected early 2nd. For whatever reason they liked Turner more than the other guys.
Foskey feels different to me. Same physical/athletic mold but a guy that had actual production at high level of competition and has already displayed an attitude and work ethic to be great. I think his mindset will set him apart. Guy wants it and wants to be here. Maybe he also pushes Turner into reaching his potential as well.

Davenport showed flashes that showed you why he was a first round pick. It’s hard to predict physical and mental health which is where he struggles.

I feel like CSP had a bunch of influence on picks and his ego likely wanted to show everyone that he was the smartest person in the NFL. This is all speculation obviously.
