Per Josina

“QB Jameis Winston just text me that he is “finalizing” a deal to return to the #Saints.”

damn, must have been absolutely ZERO market for him to come back to a team that 1.) bascially gave up on you 2.) signed your replacement already 3.) asked you to take a pay cut

Yeah no one is looking for him to start anymore. 4 mil closer to home no moving. But still seems weird after last year. Maybe we'll find out the scoop on it all.

I hope he is somehow traded.

I wanted Dalton as a backup to Carr. Similar style, with Carr just being better.

And be a well paid backup.

1 year 4mil with incentives that could push it to 8mil.

Now bad considering his cap hit would have been 12mil+ for 2023.

If a young guy like Haener or Tune is available in the 6th would be worth taking a flyer out the see if they could replace Winston in 24 as backup.

This is a cap-saving move. Dalton is not under contract. Signing Dalton would have been a cap hit of his contract+8M I believe (so likely 13-16M net). This move is -8M net.

if we are going QB in the later rounds (hard to see us doing that now, with so many holes needing a rookie contract solution on this team), we'd be better served going with Stetson Bennett, over the 2 you mentioned

Seeing as how Jameis' cap hit was huge if we didnt bring him back, this move should be way more highly applauded by this board.

Of coarse no applaud, they're busy pissing and moaning.

#Saints QB Jameis Winston's new deal includes $4M in guarantees: a $2.835 million bonus and a $1.165M base salary. It cleared $11.068M in cap space for New Orleans, which made a slew of moves to get under the cap by Wednesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.

He would rather not move his family again just to be a backup elsewhere. He’s fine with being Carr’s backup and collecting a decent paycheck. Good for him.

I think we absolutely take a QB late. Hoping for Stetson Bennett. Curious to see how he does but keep him away from the FQ please

In the 6th round, why not? I wouldn't take one before then though

Agreed. Dalton has shown he does a better job in the role of managing an offense to keep it's head above water...which is what you want in a backup.
