Problem is there are quite a few teams in the market for a QB right now

Who are the teams with vacancies?

Saints
Pittsburgh
Washington
Denver

Tampa drafted Trask in the 2nd. Can’t see Arians bringing Winston back regardless

It would not make much sense for a team with a QB already to sign Winston - Browns, Colts, Vikings, Eagles etc may want to change QBs but they aren’t going from those guys to Winston

Who are the FA QBs who could seemingly start for a team W1 2022?

Winston
Cam
Tyrod
Teddy
Mariota
Trubisky
Fitz

Most of those guys will be viewed as stop gaps or bridges

Then you have the RD 1 QBs - Willis, Howell, corral, Pickett, Ridder

Then you have the QBs possibly available via a trade

The short of it is, there are many different directions a team can go. As for Winston, I’d put Pittsburgh as the main contender with us for his services. But none of those teams are going all in on any of these FA QBs

I don't think any team can/should wait until the draft to target their new QB. So, anyone with a vacancy or are definitely moving on will need to target a QB in FA. I forgot about Trask, but agree I don't see Winston back in TB even if they had no QBs on roster.

I would also add Sea & Hou in a 3rd group as a possibility; unless Houston sees Mills as the long-term answer. If they do move on from their vets, they may be interested in Winston (GB has Love)

Minny is $16M over the cap. New coach, cutting Cousins saves $45M. I'd add Minn as a possible landing spot for a stop gap guy even if they plan to target a QB in the draft

I also think Carolina may look at a QB; although, they'll probably go the draft route

Indianapolis maybe.
Seattle maybe if Wilson gone.
Houston, not sure how they feel about Mills being fulltime starter.
Carolina not sure.

Chad do you make anything of JW working out in full saints garb? Is there mutual admiration and a want to run it back? Found that pretty interesting.

The key is how fast something gets done before other dominoes fall. Free agency opens in 3 weeks. Will be interesting to watch what materializes before the draft in April

Championship aspirations, dumping Wentz to get to Winston isn’t the move

They’ll have a slew of draft picks coming off a 4th place finish in the division, long way to go to catch LAR, ARZ, SF. Without Russ that sounds like a waving of the white flag and rebuild like the other three did in that division

Houston, maybe. Not sure Jameis is enticing enough for them based on that roster. Probably stick with Mills for another year and see what they got

Carolina already picked up Darnolds $18 mil option for 2022. Rhule is all in on him for next season, one would surmise

Isn't he technically still under contract until the beginning of FA? Which may also give him full access to the facilities/staff

Mills played pretty well for them considering the lack of talent, he definitely will be the starter next year.

Out of that group, the only viable starters I can see is Winston, Fitz, and Teddy.

You are leaving out Jimmy G who will be a starter somewhere but will be chasing a big contract.
Also a possibility Watson will be back as a starter next year on some team.

I just don’t see Winston or Bridgewater getting a big contract. I’d be happy with either if they take a small one year deal so we can keep building the rest of the team up. Namely adding a legitimate #2 receiver.

Not really other than there is still an obvious affection for the team and the team has an affection for Jameis. Its still a business and contract would need to get done and there will be some type of outside influence in play at some point.

Yep but he’s doing his PT in Birmingham with an outside Dr. Not reading too much into the Saints gear just found it interesting

I think we see Mariota starting somewhere in 2022. Tyrod is enticing to some clubs as a stop gap bc he's a vet who can protect the football, gives ya a chance to win. I can see a teak taking a flier on Trubisky in the same vein as Winston last year. His passing metrics are all better or equal to Winston's, for the most part. Cam is probably done as a starter but you never really know.

i did not include trade guys, there are too many variables.

Whover trades for Jimmy G absorbs his $24 mil salary for the 2022 season. Not sure who that will be given he's a FA after the year. One could sign Teddy for half the cost of a Jimmy G and the production isnt that far off

Watson is a wild card but who wants to give up a ton of capital to take on his legal issues as well as his baggage

I dont see it either. I think ultimately Jameis gets a short term deal. If it's here, think we can go two years with the 2nd year being an option year, decent guaranteed money as a good faith move, mid range AAV on the yearly

Saints have already signed taysom to a contract that says "if you play enough qb for us, we're paying you XX" Don't you think that should be the minimum of what Jameis asks for since he's starting over Taysom?

Teddy is on a 4 Million 1 year deal. We may be able to get him for half of that, considering his play in Denver.

Why the hell would we want to bring back Teddy?

Winston isn't going to have as many options as people think.

I think he comes back on a 1 or 2 year deal. My guess is about 10-15 mil a year.

Saints - If its not Winston then it will be a safe, salary friendly veteran with starting stability. Safe, game managment, no turnover, efficent QB.

Seattle - A Wilson Trade is all media hype - not going to happen because Wilson has one year left on his contract and there is not an upgrade at QB out there. They are going to save their ammo for next years draft.

Pittsburgh - I think they go with Randolph, Haskins and look to draft their next Franchise QB next year.

Washington - They have asset to pull of a big trade if they target a QB. Rogers or Wilson is there target and if not these then they stay with Heineken

Denver - They have been in the QB spins cycle for years now and they have to get it right soon. Rogers may get to rich for them but keep an eye on what happens with TN. Tannehill would be the best they have had since Manning and get them through until they find a Franchise QB.

Indianapolis - Wentz is out due to money. Winston is an option but he may not want to go into that situation.

Houston - They like Mills and are prepared to go with him if there is not a sure better option out there.

Carolina - Make or break year for Rhule and they are not getting a big name. Look for someone like Cousins, Garoppolo, maybeeee Watson. Lets face it, Rhule is gone after this year because the panther have been an organization and team mess since he became HC. He is way over his head as a NFL HC.

You have no clue.
Jameis might want to stay in NOLA for a fair market price. He knows what he has here and the last 2 years (contract wise) have shown me that he’s not all about $$$.

For me it comes down to if Jameis is going to win multiple playoff games? I think not. Sign Bridgewater and draft a rookie.

He’s going to get more guaranteed and a higher AAV than taysom wherever he goes, including here. Not sure if someone will go 4 years on him though. Lot of incentives built in too I reckon

I mean Jim G is 5-2 in the playoffs with a SB and NFCCG appearances. 60% comp 4 TDs 6 INTs and never threw for more than 232 yards

The 2021 iteration of JW could get there. Limit turnovers, run the ball, play D. We already have the personnel in place
