honestly have no clue what to think about this.

He only had 1 season as a coordinator before getting the HC job in Jax.

The defense in Jax under his tenure, usually were solid but I have no clue how much influence he had at that.

GW had something to do with that

So whats the reason for them having the #6 defense currently?

I think it would be a good hire...Greg Williams has had alot of top draft picks that he hasn't really developed ....if we had an average offence ,with the Defense that Williams has...we would not be in the playoffs

what top picks would that be? Sed Ellis and Malcolm Jenkins? Both are solid starters.
P-Rob and Cam don't count yet, but both are starting.
So if you consider them all "under developed" as starters then whats your excuse for Payton with Meachem and Reggie?

I like Del Rio, I just get sick and tired of these ungrateful Saints fans who treat GW like he sucks.... Dude has been to 2 SB's and won 1..... How many has Del Rio been to?

Again I'm not saying Del Rio sucks or even that GW > Del Rio.... Just give GW the respect he deserves.

But you're throwing Del Rio under the bus in your efforts to respect GW, and Del Rio doesn't deserve that either.

The year GW was Del Rio's DC the Jags were ranked 17th in defense. The year before they were ranked 12th. They haven't been good since then until this year when they ended up 6th, so Del Rio has been up and down, but I'd say 6th this year is a pretty good coaching job considering I can't name many Jacksonville defenders.

Although it's possible, I can't see Gregg leaving yet.

Williams is wearing out his welcome in NOLA and I think that is the issue too. His defense, while improved a tad from the beginning of the year is still underperforming giving the players the Saints picked up.

That is a major thing.

You will have this issue as long as offense is the far and away the priority under payton. 10 years of spending 3rd and 4rd round picks on LBers is catching up with us.

The problem is that you can't get a play making linebacker in the 20s. Those impact LBs usually go way ahead of where the Saints have been picking. People act like Payton/Loomis have blatantly ignored the LB position, but the reality is they would either have had to do something expensive like Atlanta did to get Julio Jones, or reach for a LB in the 1st.

Great point TigerinATL. I'm sure there were a few that slipped to where Saints were, but who do you give up?

Also, I think Williams stays. Especially if they beat San Fran and push for a Super Bowl birth.

Since the STL game, they are giving up about 19 points a game. The Saints should beat any team if they only allow 19 pts given up.

Maybe with stupid bandwagon fans who jumped on somewhere between 06 and 09 but anyone whos been a diehard their entire life is prob more than happy with GW. I sure as hell am. The guys helped us win like 37 games in 3 season, a superbowl, and possibly a second one. Get off our bandwagon.

This is funny because a friend of mine just told me 2 weeks ago he saw Del Rio's name in the local real estate transfers that he purchased a condo in the warehouse district.

JMO but Williams has been overated especially if the team is not feasting on turnovers. He leaves huge holes in the middle of the field when blitzing and the good QBs always exploit it.

For some strange reasons i've just felt that the vibes of Payton and 3G are just off a bit and they aren't built long term for each other. Just my 2 cents. I think JDR could be a slight upgrade for us. I think 3G has done well but just a tad tad tad overrated and his blitzes are so ineffective it's ridiculous.

Defense has been a huge priority in the draft and free agency

You know he played college ball at USC. God forbid they ever play LSU in the sugar bowl in the dome. If he cheers for USC everyone here will call for his head on a platter.

I think the reason the blitzes aren't effective is because our front 4 can't get any pressure. It makes everything too predictable.

Maybe, but you know where the blame goes huh... the coordinator and D line coach. We have 3 1st round picks on that line on top of free agent pickups Franklin and Rogers... No more damn excuses. I'm fricking done with excuses. Production or get the frick.
