It's possible that the top OT's: Ekwonu, Neal, Cross & Penning will be gone before we pick

The guy who did the new Sports Illustrated mock thinks so. He has them going at 3, 5, 6, and 13.

They have us getting a OT in round 2. Tyler Smith at #49 would be a home run

This is their 2 round mock:

quote:

16. New Orleans Saints (via Eagles, via Colts): Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

Will the Saints package the 16th and 19th picks to move up? If so, it would most likely be for an offensive tackle or a quarterback. Without projecting a trade up in version 3.1, there isn’t an offensive tackle who makes sense here with the top four already off the board. Pickett is a four-year starter who broke Watson’s ACC record for most passing touchdowns in a season (42) while cutting down on his interceptions (seven) in 2021. Pickett has good arm strength and mobility, throws well on the move and moves quickly through his progressions.

19. New Orleans Saints (via Eagles): Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

Olave creates easy separation as one of the most polished route-runners in this year’s draft class. Due to his speed and ability to track the ball well, he can be a weapon in the vertical passing game and would complement Thomas well. He finished his Ohio State career with a school record for receiving touchdowns (35) and averaged 15.4 yards per catch.

49. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa

I wouldn’t hate that and would be okay with Pickett if he fell to us. Trading up for a QB is something I wouldn’t agree with.

Considering we draft linemen really well in the later rounds, I can see a WR/DT combo in round 1

I like Smith from Tulsa but he 100% will not be there at 49. He will go bottom of the first.

Agreed. I even saw one mock that projected him to us at #18 when we still had that pick

Seems I heard somewhere some think Smith would be a dominating guard.

We still don't know what the Saints think of the oline. Could they be thinking of moving Ram to LT and Landon Young plays RT? Then pick up Smith to compete at guard
Yeah sure thats it!

I thought Young was playing pretty good until his injury. He is an excellent run blocker which is what we need in a RT. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't pick a tackle early but rather a Guard where we need help at.

OTs always rise on draft day. Great chance they will all be gone. Throw in anyone who needs one knows they have to get in front of us at 16, so I could see Penning going 15 right in front of us.

Would much rather Davis at 16 (mock has him going 17th), then going best WR on our board at 19.

But, wouldn't hate Pickett at 16 if the value is there; although, if I'm going QB I would probably flip it and go WR at 16 and QB at 19. Don't see LAC or Philly going QB, but both are very likely to go WR

Devin Lloyd is intriguing as well, but think he'd be a bit of a reach at 19

I don't think much of Pickett, the moves for vet QBs kind of shows what the league thinks of this QB crop.

sometimes teams just squint really hard and force the issue at QB...they don't really appear to be inclined to do that with this class.

There’s a big drop off from Penning to Smith even though I like Smith as a project he’s not going to be your day 1 starting tackle at either side. The kid is only 21 he will need time to learn the NFL game. Penning is ready to play day 1 on whatever side you want him and the nasty streak he plays with is absolutely insane. His own OL coach said he’d watch Saw before games and his teammates were afraid to look him in the eye at times. That’s the type of guy I want on my OL.

You never know in the draft anything can happen.. projections are projections untill the draft really hit.. How many times have we seen multiple teams draft players in the first that aren't the biggest need.. we drafted an interior lineman a few year back and could have had Jefferson.. and how did that play out??

Cincinnati will definitely be looking for a OT or center from Iowa

Only if outside of the game he's totally normal. Because that's legit terrifying, like he's gonna have off field issues haha

Can we move Peat out to LT? That was supposed to be his position since he can’t play on the right side of the line

He is making enough money to give that a shot. Of course it would only be for 5-6 games
