Time to pay the check

Last year and this year the Saints were all in on winning a Super Bowl.

Now, it’s confirmd what we already know. The roster will suffer because Drew counts $33.5 million against the cap next year.

And when Loomis says this:

quote:

“We’ll see what happens,” Loomis said Wednesday during an interview with New Orleans media members at Senior Bowl festivities. “We know it’s coming at some point, and we’ve kind of kicked the can down the road a number of times, haven’t we?

They know the NFL just fricked the Saints out of a Super Bowl plan 2-3 years in the making.

Unless Drew decides to drastically restructure his deal, don’t know how a 40 yr old does that with god only knows how many elite years left, our Saints are getting ready to pay the check with no hardware.

This means losing guys to FA which results in changing the chemistry of the lockeroom and team.

Loomis, CSP, and the rest all knew this was THE YEAR.

Everything worked out perfectly:
1 seed
No injuries to Brees, Thomas, kamara, Ingram etc

Then...well we all know what happened.

frick the NFL

NOLA

All the more reason to claim the NFC Title.

Because we did earn it.

Not really the same. When Brady did his good deed, he had a few to 5 years left. He wasn’t as old as Drew is now.

You can’t spread out the hit on a 40 yr old bc because there aren’t enough years for him left to play at that level.

Translation this was it and we got fricked

Why don’t they convert that salary into a large bonus? Pay him 13 million bonus and restructure his deal for 20, or 10 over two years?

I say restructure his contract to about 8mil base salary and the rest of the money be easy performance bonuses like 2000 yards passing 5 mil 20 tds 7mil 8 wins 9 mil etc

Age bro. He’s old. 2 years and that puts him at 42 and some change.

These cats fall off quick to where you don’t even recognize them. Last one was just recently- Peyton. Dude all of a sudden lost his ability to throw semmingly overnight

Front office has to also look at the issue from a long term “what’s best for the franchise” outlook as well

Do tell. 19mil in cap space. No starter is a free agent (aside from Ingram)

What guys? PJ Williams? Craig robertson?

The only one is Mark Ingram and I'd bank we keep him on a pretty friendly deal.

They knew it was a 2 year window going into this season. Your major free agents will be paid in 2020, not 2019.

If Brees stays on the cap for $33.3 Mil at his age after Brady has played for pennies comparatively then he doesn’t deserve another SB ring nor does it say to me he really wants it.

If he really wants it he will take less so we can make some moves to improve his offensive talent

Couldn’t we theoretically keep him on the roster for several years after he’s done just to spread out the cap hit?

It would just be playing with 52 for a few years.

How does it count against the Saints when Brees retires

DB better cut a deal or retire. He has to know he’s not worth that amount and the crushing effect the roster will reflect.

I agree with this after this season. 1 more year is prob all he’s got. Brees has collected north of 200 million at this point.

If I were him I’d sign for the vet min and tell loomis and SP to get me all the help they could for one more run. Sticking it to the NFL would be my goal for next season.

Of course my evil plan would be to tell roger to get fricked after he handed us the trophy too.

Also, FYI, if Brees gets his full 33 million cap hit next season he will have made more money than any other player ever, edging Payton Manning by a couple of million.

In what world do you see Goodell and those that own him allowing the saints to have a game where the officiating isn't allowing the other team to play siamese twins at DB and OL?

Just let em play when Saints field a team in playoffs. Thank god we did have the bounty otherwise we may not have a trophy

Drew should just get a wink wink deal to buy in to the Saints after he retires ala Magic Johnson with the Lakers.
