They are actually fun to watch.
They're a rebuilding team so there are ups and downs, but the ups are definitely surprising this soon, and yes fun to watch. I'm still tempering my expectations for this season and next.
I'm happy with this season (as per my preseason expectations of just figuring out the system and who on this roster can fit that system, and drafting well in 2025)
2026 I'll be looking for continued improvement, 2025 I did not care about wins and losses. 2026 I'm expecting 5-7 wins and another successful draft class. Continued improvement from the rookies this season and finally clearing the cap for 2027.
2027, at this point I expect for them to be challenging for the division. We'll know by the end of the 2026 season if Shough is the man going forward or not. I expect him to continue progressing and leading the team. If not a QB in the 2027 draft or FA will be a must to sustain the rebuild and not back slide.
Over all its very positive.

We need to find a Demario replacement. He’s still the heartbeat of our defense and although he’s incredible, there’s no way he can keep that going much longer. Also need another DE to pair with young but the defense is in pretty good shape.
Offense is the bigger concern. We are more inexperienced there so maybe some of it will be natural growth (both tackles, QB, RB and second receiver in first or second year in the league). But we’ve got to make upgrades on the line and most importantly skill positions.
I mean everyone on this board has very legit concerns about Olave as a number one, Johnson as a TE, and Vele as a legit starter. Yet Olave is far and away our best receiver, Johnson has the second most targets on the team and Vele is clearly our number two. We’ve got to spend a day one or two pick on a pass catcher at a minimum. Maybe two picks and try to sign someone

I think that this may be some false hope like WAS last year coming into this year. I don't want the FO to do the thing they did last offseason where they make "win now" moves ahead of schedule.

really think KM is doing a helluva job coaching.
We have been in almost every game but Seattle.
Team plays hard.
That is a testament to coaching.

Close to what?
I think they're very close to being a legit playoff team. I don't think they're close to being a Super Bowl team. At least right now. Still think they're a season or 2 away from that. I'd still be very happy with them being a playoff team again, and absolutely think they could do that next season.

I think they're closer than a lot of pundits thought before the year started. They aren't the worst team in the league and so far it seems like they nailed several of their draft picks. Banks, Shough, Sanker, Stutsman and Riley have all shown flashes of being really good players. Neal has also been serviceable at tailback, but I don't think he's the future. Will be a solid backup though

We need a lot more guys that are a threat with the ball in their hands before we are close. We are a bottom 2-3 team in the entire league in terms of weapons. We need at least 2 WRs and likely 2 more running backs. Outside of Olave we’re an exceedingly slow offense skill player wise and he’s easy enough to shut down.
Even when we get those players we will have a year or so of the new roster learning how to win in the NFL before we’re really a playoff threat.
I don’t think anyone can argue against this year being WAY better than most thought though in terms of bottoming out and turning the corner while still playing hard. That says a lot about KM and staff.

I think they are making strides to get out of the cap hell they were in and at least you now have a QB on a rookie deal
another solid draft like this past one where you added some nice pieces and their is light at the end of the tunnel
it always helps to be in the weakest NFC division

i can see us using free agency to make a few defensive upgrades and using the draft for offense. Guard, Guard, WR, WR, TE. In no particular order.

I agree.
They've had one really bad game all year against Seattle. Have been very competitive. They just can't overcome self inflicted penalties/turnovers yet.
Interior OL, WR, and edge rusher upgrades needed.

even remotely
There’s a decent chance Shough finishes the year 5-4 or 6-3. “even remotely” is dramatic. The defense has played well for over a month now. If Shough starts the first eight games it’s likely he would’ve pulled out at least one additional win.
I think a lot of people don’t watch NFL games outside of the Saints. There isn’t much difference between rosters outside of the top few teams and the absolutely dreadful teams like the Titans and Raiders. We need playmakers but we aren’t as bad top to bottom as some of these other teams. And if we can be confident Shough is QB1 heading out of the season we are ahead of a lot of teams. QB play in the NFL is dogshit compared to just five years ago.

The team is not close.
How in the world are Saints fans on this site so blinded by their fandom.

5-7 wins
Provided they finish strong, there’s a decent chance the Saints hit that in 2025. If we are only winning 5 games next year there is a problem.

i think they like each other and get along well, but not sure how close they are.

They beat two shitty teams and an average team in the rain. Let’s not start sucking them off just yet

Someone is going to win this division at 9-8 or 8-9
Bucs are older and poised to take a step back. Their window is closing
Carolina and Atlanta are in similar positions as us. It’s all predicated on QB play

It's just you; they are at least 2 good drafts from being a legitimate contender.

There won’t be many “good teams” on our schedule next season. The benefit of not winning many games and playing in a terrible division.
