We for called for intentional grounding for spiking the ball while clock was not running. Shouldn't there be a penalty for snapping the ball before an intentional grounding call?

Its a shitty call but it was the right call. Have to have more awareness on offense.

It is dumb that the penalty even exists, wasting the down and losing a couple yards is enough penalty.

How would the center know an IG call is coming on the play?

They called Jarvis out of bounds instead of down by contact on the previous play.

Wrong or right, that was the first time I’ve seen that called in 50 years of watching football. Crazy.

It’s no excuse as they should know the situation, but Landry was definitely in bounds. I’m sure this is a leaning experience for everyone.

I didn’t think intentional grounding could be called if it wasn’t to avoid a sack

Did you read the op? I'm not excusing the mistake just explaining what happened.

Not as old as you, but I’ve watched a lot of football and never seen that either.

He clearly was trying to throw that to the RB. Not sure why IG was called

Yeah they should have ran a play. But it all worked out regardless.

same caught me off guard because I had never seen it before and thought we were getting screwed.

I knew seeing Winston run up to the line though he was about to spike it with the clock stopped and was like wtf are you doing before we even snapped it

Wasn't even the dumbest spike of the game. Why they didn't let the clock run down on the 3rd down play, I'll never understand

I've seen illegal spiking of the ball before, but both times it was because the person who spiked the ball did not take the snap under center.

They showed Winston holding up three fingers to the coaching staff after that spike. He thought the pass was first down, and the legal spike was second.

Actually happened a couple years ago to Ole Miss

ETA: and I believe included a 10 sec runoff that ended the game

Except it's not right.
"It is a foul for intentional grounding if a passer, facing an imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense ..." From the first sentence of the rule in the rulebook.
