How many first rounders have lived up to the hype for the Saints in the last eight years?

Davenport- no
Ruiz - no
Turner - no
Olave - yes
Penning - no
Bresee - no
Fuaga - no
Banks - maybe

That is a lot of either bad talent evaluation or talent development.

Either way it falls on our horrible GM drafting bad players or pairing them with bad coaches.

Bresee was fine for where he was drafted. Calling every late first rounder who isn’t a pro bowler a bust is a high bar.

Think you’re seeing the drop off this year in the defensive front without him compared to with him isn’t insignificant.

Honestly why I’m scared to just throw another high first rounder at an o lineman . You can argue very strongly that they whiffed on 3/4. Factor in the d line misses and we are very poor over the last decade at drafting the trenches.

In really to the point where I just want to take the closest thing to can’t miss guys at possible regardless of position to that inject elite talent SOMEWHERE.

Plus giving a second contract Ruiz.

To add insult is that we just paid top dollar for the highest rated FA G in Edwards, and it has not improved the o-line. So at some point we have to have a deep dive to see if it's lack of talent evaluation, or lack of development, or lack of coach scheme.

Oddly enough we had similar overall O-line in game success with "middle of the mall" free agent pickups or acquisitions like Luke Fortner, Lucas Patrick, Shane Lemieux, and Dillon Radunz, so maybe we should just try and go that route. Save on the draft capitol and high price FA money

It's pretty darn bad, which is why some of us are beginning to think that this franchise won't win another SB until it resides somewhere else with a new owner.

This franchise is pretty bad and efforts to get better look quite futile from where I can see.

Same with DE. They’ve essentially used 3 first and a second rounder in the past 8 years and they were all bust. Hendrickson in the 3rd and Granderson as a UDFA is their only DE hits in a decade.

It's the former. None of the guys who have left have been good elsewhere.

Tell Trey that he didn't understand the conversation for a couple of reasons.

First, remind him that he wasn't a first round pick and therefore doesn't really fit into this discussion.

Second, remind him that he was very productive in New Orleans and doesn't fit into the discussion for that reason.

You can tell him that we all know we should have kept him and given up on Davenport. But, that has nothing to do with what we are discussing.

The reality is Mickey hasn’t drafted any all pros in the 1st round or any all NFC south players.Thats why the Saints are losing.

The reality is that Mickey is cosplaying as a GM. He’s not a personnel guy and doesn’t understand the game at all technical level.

He shouldn’t be anywhere near the draft room.

You would think at some point they would hit on some pick since it's basically a 50-50 proposition in the 1st round. You really have to try and pick the wrong players to have a streak like the Saints have had.
