Adam Schefter on get up just said Saints have deal in place ready to go. Atlanta still scrambling to put something together. Not saying he won’t choose us but that says a lot to me

It's obvious he wants Atlanta, why else would he have reached out. The Saints are obviously the better choice for him and the stall is to let Atlanta try and put the pieces together. The Saints need to nut up and give him a deadline, which should have been yesterday.

Yeah. He’s helping the Falcons find a Matt Ryan trade while they still have leverage. This is over, we need to find a backup option.

If he really wanted to go to Atlanta he would have already told the Saints they are out of the running. They did that to the panthers and browns.

Not really. The moment that got reported, which would be immediately by someone like Underhill, any team who was considering trading for Matt Ryan would immediately lower their offer or pull out altogether knowing that they’d have to cut him to make room for Watson, and he would be cheaper on the open market. They’d lose all their leverage. It makes a lot of sense that they’d keep it hush for a few days to let them try to trade Ryan.

IMHO, this is the most likely scenario describing what's going on right now with this thing. An added bonus is that the Stall is making the Saints risk losing their own Starting QB, Jameis Winston.
Double Win for Watson and ATL.
ATL is willing to cut Matt Ryan, if they can't trade him, IMHO.

Watson knows he can win a Super Bowl or two with the Saints in the next five years.
Once all the Falcons draft capital is gone the Texans have a better shite at making the playoffs than the Falcons over the next three years.
I hope his agent is being honest about how bad a team the Falcons are and I hope the Texans take Pitts.

How exactly is he crippling us? The Saints were never going to be major players in free agency and have managed to sign a few people while engaged in this trade.

I don't know about you but I was very happy with Jameis before injury and was and still am all in on him if this does not work out with Watson. I'd prefer Watson over Winston in this scenario but neither one is a bad option to me.

I just highly doubt that Atlanta is thinking about how they can cripple the saints, when they have Watson in sight and need to be focused on solving the Ryan situation.

No one is saying we and ATL will not pay him more money, but contracts are all about guaranteed money. Also, you better believe he is looking at the Mahomes and Rogers contracts as a starting point. If we are both offering him $40 mil a year with 140 mil in guarantees, he could very easily be stalling to see who will up the guarantee money.
I know ATL is his hometown, but not many athletes really seem to give a shite about that.

No. His cap hit now is 48m. If they cut him, 40m is dead and they’ll save 8. They are already cap compliant right now. So they’d gain 8 in space by cutting or trading him.
In theory they could sweeten the pot with a trade partner to take some of the salary, which is why the leverage is so important and why IMO the decision is made and is being kept quiet.
