Has our opinion of Jameis Winston’s character improved after 8 games?

As a player we’ve obviously seen very little, but character-wise I’ve been very impressed with the way he’s handled himself. Hasn’t said or done anything to draw negative headlines ala Brees and Thomas, and the fact that he has recognized and completely owned the “eating a W” thing, which he was ridiculed for mercilessly, and somehow made it so awesome he’s convincing Sean Payton to do it, is pretty fricking impressive. Curious as to what others have to say about it.

I love him.....as a backup! Reminds me of Teddy! Well liked and a known clown in the locker room. Guys like him are good for teams!

I wouldn’t call Teddy a clown in the locker room. Well liked and fan favorite, absolutely, but not a clown. My favorite thing about teddy is that he would ride his bike to the dome on game days. When the word got out of him doing so a parade of fans would join him. Not many nfl players would do that.

I think there are different definitions when using the word clown. There is the version of a clown who is just stupid and not really liked. Then there is the one who cuts up all the time and likes to have fun. I think the second is more what he meant. Teddy seemed to be a fun person and cut up a lot. I think you are seeing the same with Winston. It feels like the saints locker room brings that out.

I didn’t know that. Does Kamara still walk home after games? That was awesome too.

No pressure by being the backup and just having fun probably for the first time as a pro. Likely doing wonders for his mental health.

No doubt. And add in what has become one of the best locker rooms in the NFL with great mentors you can easily see the benefits for someone like Winston.

CSP knows if he wants to keep him but we have to wait

I definitely give him credit for understanding that his career is hanging by a thread and knowing that if he screws up here it's probably over. Frankly, I did not think he was that smart. Happy to be wrong.

He's doing what he should have done when he first entered the league. Sit ,watch, learn behind one of the all time greats in the game. It will pay off for him greatly!

Its unlikely the Saints could pick up a more talented free agent QB if they are in the market for next season other than Matthew ?Stafford. If Jameis year in finishing school with Brees and Payton convert him into a true professional it might be a great move on the part of the Saints to bring him in. His free agency options next season are likely to be with a bottom feeder like Tampa was most of his tenure so the Saints would be a very enticing.

I am not aware of any character-defining hurdles Winston has encountered since his signing with the Saints, but let’s say I am cautiously optimistic.

I’m pretty sure from the get go the reports were that he was very coachable and enthusiastic . My biggest concern is his decision making in the pocket.

When Jameis ate the W on camera, he became one of my favorite Saints of all time.
