I have a growing concern that these two have become a main focus for the Saints two first round picks. I think both will make good NFL WRs, so let’s get that out of the way.

However, if you are drafting in this spot, you want to absolutely shoot for a true WR1. And as I look at more data, I worry that their size may prevent them from ever being that true WR1.

On another note, if these two guys were coming out of, say, Mississippi St, who exactly are they are prospects? Who would have been their QB this past year or two, what would their production have been, and what exactly would be their prospectus coming out of the draft?

For me, they are more top 50 guys. These aren’t top 15 guys. The draft at WR is too deep to stretch out & pick these guys that early.

I’ve listed out the top 22 WR’s from 2021 by weight, and sorted the list by reYds

Tyreek is the only true WR1 & he is a unicorn.

There are other guys there size but where were they drafted & what exactly are their roles? I see a high WR2 cap here, with guys like Cooks & Lockett, & potentially Diontae Johnson.

Anyway, form your own opinion

Kupp 208
Chase 201
Jefferson 202
Adams 212
Tyreek 5’8” 185
Deebo 214
Diggs 195
Lockett 5’9” 182
Diontae Johnson 5’10” 183
DJ Moore 210
Mike Williams 218
Keenan Allen 206
Godwin 209
Lamb 198
Higgins 216
Pittman 223
Mooney 5’8” 176
Mclaurin 208
Renfrow 5’10” 185
Cooks 189 5’9”
Mike evans 213
Waddle 5’9” 180

Olave 6’0” 187
Wilson 6’0” 183

one would think they'll put on weight in the NFL. i haven't looked it up but i doubt Mclaurin weighed 208 as a rook

ETA: adding 10-12 lbs should be no problem

Usually, the NFL will put a good nutrition plan and training routine together.

What were these players weight when in college?

The pundits have been touting that will both will likely be gone before Pick 16 anyway, so your worries should be eased.

Every single one of the weights I listed were from the combine

No way J Jefferson was 200+ in college either.

So weird a good thread like this gets downvoted, I don't care if it's LE. Then people debate facts like combine weights.

It's an extremely good and well researched point, and I tend to agree I see both of these guys maxing out as good #2 WRs.

Nah, I think you just aren’t very good at looking at a guy & understanding what they weigh

Which brings me back to my point. If you don’t think Jefferson was 202(draft process weight, again), then you must understand how small these Ohio st guys are

People will talk them into so many things these days when it comes to draft season. The draft has become so big & well-covered. So they will consume these mock drafts & information for months and talk themselves into things.

When a lot of the time the answers are right in front of you. Both of these guys are too skilled not to be decent NFL players. But when looking at this info, what exactly is the ceiling? I think it turns into a this not that situation. We can get the same type of player, with the same ceiling, in the second round. I’m pretty convinced of that

I think Jameson would be more in that unicorn category. But still, tread lightly

How do you define a "true WR1?" With how dynamic NFL offenses have gotten, the WR1 we used to know (line up wide and run crisp routes fast) isn't a must have. Instead, you have teams running their offense through guys like Tyreek dominating from the slot, or Deebo Samuel lining up all over the field.

If you believe a guy is one of the top handful of receivers, you make a play for him in the first round.

You know a WR1 when you see it

I’m all for Jordan Davis and Penning or another OT at 16 and 19. I don’t see a dominant WR1. Take a flyer on someone like Justyn Ross or Mechie. Hopefully the lights go on for Tre’Quan.

We have a WR1. Do we need that? I mean, I understand your point: aim to draft someone with superstar potential. But more than ever you need a lot of options on a team. I think if we’re looking for someone who fits really well opposite MT and our other guys, these two are really good fits

I agree with your point though. Don’t think that would lead me to take someone like Burks or London, who I just don’t trust.

He weighed 190 in High school. I’m sure gettyto 208 wasn’t that hard for him.

All that said I like Wilson’s ability after the catch, we rarely get guys like that in Nee Orleans. He’s also faster according to the combine.

Tyreek maybe built like a slot guy, but he lined up at every Wr position the Chiefs had.

So draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd that fit the same mold

That’s a horrible idea. Tre’Quan has no lights to turn on. 16 or 19 has to be a WR
