Lamar will be tagged if they don't reach a contract agreement.

Yep and out of our price range as well. Barring something we get for SP, next year is most likely Dalton, Winston, or a 2nd round or later QB we take a flyer on.

we are 53 million over the cap with 38 players under contract

Now we could save almost 50 mil just restructuring, trading, or cutting Thomas, Cam, Marshon, Peat, and Ram.

Garrapolo wouldn't be bad for like a two year deal...let's us get a first to use in '24 and sit the guy a year

Wouldn’t pay more for him than using dalton in same spot though

Had to edit. Looked at the wrong year.

We are 53 over the cap. Lattimore and Ram are def untouchable though. Designating Cam, Thomas, Peat post June 1 cuts frees up an immediate 42 million. Doing the same with Winston puts us under the cap. But you can’t sign guys like Lamar who want fully guaranteed contracts. Carr imo is the best option. Not many years left and not overly expensive. You can’t bring Dalton back to run the show. We just saw it. It’s one of if not the worst offenses in the league.

We do what shoujd have been done last year. Whoever believes in themselves enough to want to be a starter for a one year shite contract with incentives. Maybe sign two and let them compete.

While durability is a concern, I think he can play at a higher level than Dalton at this point. It's kind of a win win. If he does well, we have something to build on. If not, we'll have a better pick and our rookie can take his lumps

I think Carr is a decent option. Not gonna take much to get him. He doesn’t have many years left on his deal. Jimmy G is another option. I just can’t imagine bringing Dalton back to be your qb

Carr and Jimmy G are better options than Dalton but both will cost well over 20+ million. I don’t think you realize the dearth or lack of decent QBs out there.

Redskins, Jets, Panthers, Falcons, possibly Bucs if Tom retires, Raiders, Colts, Texans, possibly Titans, possibly Miami with Tua’s health.

So nine or ten teams, with two or three that will end up with rookies that may start. 6 or 7 that will be looking at Jimmy G and Carr as the best option out there. And you don’t think they are gonna get paid lol?

Prepare thy anus for Winston or Dalton next year under center.

This is where we perhaps can see what Loomis may be planning.

Sticking with low rent QB's next year leans towards planning to make a big splash in 23 or 24 for a true franchise QB.

Making a big deal out of dropping major coin on some middling no sure bet QB just to make his job easier is another way.

Let Taysom run the show, and either we win or we tank Beautifully and get the no1 pick. Whatever it’s really time to blow it up and rebuild.

Though you weren't replying to my post, thank you, your post was the best logical answer. Though it would suck losing Cam, especially as a saint, for some reason Allen doesn't want to play Winston, peat is always hurt and Thomas well the actually worse than peat with "injuries"

Making some cuts like Cam and Peat is probably necessary to get out of this "cap hell". The can has been kicked down the road for too long and it is hurting now.

DUMP or TRADE Michelle Thomas too!!

Honestly don't care what they do with him. He is costing the team money if they cut him or if he is sitting home doctor shopping while playing video games.

I'm not knowledgeable in how the contracts work overall but I believe if we trade a cut him we take a big hit upfront, but to me it's worth it not to be years down the road not being able to sign anyone while he gets paid to sit home.

I understand the sentiment, but the problem is the $50+M hole Mickey has this team in. If they do nothing with MT's contract, he has a cap hit of $28M. If they cut/trade him, his cap hit drops to $25.5M. IMO, they have to extend him to lower his cap number by at least $10M, but also structure it in a way that would be favorable for a trade in 2024 (which is his last year under the current contract anyway). If he's still not able/willing to play in 2023, you can ship him off after the season. Either way, you are looking at a 2 year salary cap situation with him
