The Jets re-signed punter Thomas Morstead to a two-year deal worth more than $5 million
quote:

Morstead led the league with 99 punts and 4,831 gross yards. His gross punting average (48.8) and net punting average (41.8) in 2023 set Jets’ single-season team records. Morstead, 38, has averaged 46.8 yards per punt and 41.6 net yards per punt during his 15-year career with the Saints, Falcons, Dolphins and Jets.
Probably get downvoted but still happy for Thomas

We could really use Morstead these days.
We may have the worst punter in the NFL right now. If Loomis rolls him out again week 1 I’m going to lose my mind.

Still can boot it. Wish we still had him but DA thought a shitty Aussie that has tattoos over his entire body would be better.

Lives right behind my sister-in-law's home. We walk by his home when we visit. Not far from there is Loomis' home, Taysom's home, Carr's home, and I think a few Pelican players as well.

He must be worth a fortune still being in the league making big bucks (lower end NFL money as a punter) since he was 21ish.

Get used to it. High booming punters like Morestead are slowly going away in favor of the rugby directional punters like the Saints have. They look ugly, be our guy had one of the better inside the 20 numbers last year.

Glad he found a second home, but it is also heartwarming to know he still support the Saints

My son when he was younger was at training camp with me Morestead’s rookie year. Got a ball signed by him and Beerman. He was classy then, still seems to be now. Should have never let him go.

When you have the cap issues the Saints have, you have to make sacrifices. You can't pay a punter $2.5M a year, when you are having to kick contracts down the road to get cap compliant every year.

Rizzi has said in previous press conference that he focuses on net punt average. As much as we would all love to have Morstead, if the focus is on net punting average is it really worth an extra $1.5+M for 2 yards?
Hedley net punt average = 39.8 (27th in league)
Morstead net punt average = 41.8 (19th)

Where the money should have gone was Gilikin - 8th @ 43.6
