When his teammates ambushed him, he had 2 choices:

1) Apologize and get his balls cut off and lose fans and credibility

2) Simply state that the opinion he shared about the National Anthem was the same one shared by the legendary Jim Brown. Throw Jenkins and Thomas on Brown....and see how that turns out.

Who is advising him and his wife??

Shouldn’t have gotten that far, his response should have been smarter in a pointless interview, you can respect the flag and teammates while standing

I don't know, but he can go away at this point.

It's one thing to cave to the mob, it's another to continue this nonsense and actually dig his heels in.

See warmups yesterday when he had on a black t-shirt with #sayhername on it. He's a loser.

And I'm a Saints fan and respect what he has done for this franchise. But this is too much and I'd rather move on. It's pathetic.

The guy who gets ripped off on shady jewelry deals? Yeah, not really that smart.

I’m glad he showed his true cuck colors.

They were probably gonna give this clown a statue before all this happened.

At least that got prevented.

His apology was actually perfect. He stood by what he said re: kneeling & the flag and apologized for the timing on the comments as it had absolutely nothing to do with what was happening at the time.

Our fan base is just too stupid to comprehend what he said.

If he had a good one he would've known not to dive face first onto the landmine during a simpleass interview promoting jeans.

Will he be kneeling? Will his helmet have a Jacob Blake sticker or a BLM logo? Will he be throwing a 5 yard pass to a RB?

At best he should have defended his position. He was correct after all.

The worst he should have done was clarify and apologize if anyone was offended.

The ridiculous charade he went through with the instagram posts from him and his wife crawling on the ground groveling before morons was disgusting.

Maybe if the owner and coach and mayor and governor and sympathetic teammates would have stood up for the guy it would have helped.

They chose to let him twist in the wind which was just as shameful and probably a shock to the Brees family.

Don't be naive. Drew could have stood his ground if he wanted but no matter what he said or who he claimed as an ally of his opinion he would have been smeared as a racist by the national and local (cough cough underhill) media.

sure guys like you would say nice things on the internet but anyone who watches TV or reads sports articles would hear about how Brees is leading the Klan to take over America.

Ok, just ignore everything he has done since then. Brees is a self loathing racist. Accept it, then go buy a jersey with his name on it. He needs to make back some of that 5 million he gave to BLM which gets funneled straight to the DNC.

I honestly don't think he is racist but his family is the most aggressively white thing I have ever seen.

The Brees' family is a caricature of "White America."

Who would have ever thought the end of Brees career would turn out like this? He could have run for governor unopposed if he wanted to and now he’s strongly disliked by a large part of his former fans.

Correct. It's a spineless, pandering cocksucker.

Agree with all of this. He should have turned it around and said I agree with the fight for equality and stand by you. Now respect my personal decision to not kneel for our national anthem. If you don't then your are a hipocryte which is of course what those are who don't respect his and others beliefs. We should all be treated equal but if I want to stand and honour our national anthem I'll be damned if I will let anyone tell me different.

Drew groveled too much and too hard. That’s what doomed him. A simple one time apology and still defending your position with a little further clarification would have saved the day. He just broke suddenly and completely and overly freaked out, thus permanently ruining his reputation. The helmet and t-shirt thing was 100% caving to his BLM teammates.
