Do we need more size or speed at WR in draft?

Before Vele’s emergence most would say we need someone with size to compliment Olave.. but now I may argue we need someone who’s explosive.

Olave, Trey Palmer and Jaylnn Polk are all 6’1 190 type WRs. Mason Tipton is 5’10 180 and a 4.3 speed guy. Olave/Palmer were 4.3 guys and Polk a 4.5 guy.

Top WRs in the draft profiles
Jordyn Tyson - 6’1 190 mid 4.4 guy
Denzel Boston - 6’4 210 4.5 guy
Carnell Tate- 6’3 195 4.7 guy
Makai Lemon - 5’11 195 4.5 guy
Zachariah Branch 5’10 180 4.38 guy
Chris Bell 6’2 200 4.44 guy

I’m a big fan of Tyson and Bell. If because of his injury you could get Bell in the 3rd I’d consider that ideal. Bell is probably best combo of size/speed.

Speed. Would rather draft another tight end to add height to the lineup.

I think we should target TE as early as 3rd rd. Specifically I really like the Ohio State TE

In the later rounds would be great.

Early round picks should focus on O and D lines.

Speed by a lot.

To me size is completely overrated in the modern NFL that prioritizes motion, space, spreading the ball around, etc. Most of the elite WRs are now like 6’1-2 ish.

Ideally to me size should be primarily the TE and maybe another of your top 4 WRs. You don’t need that many contested catch guys as those plays are pretty inefficient.

We need twitchy players who can accelerate quickly and turn them into longer plays both in the backfield and out wide. Even Olave who has a good smooth top end speed isn’t really that.

Carnell Tate is that dude. Poach from Hartline WR tree. Need length in the WR room

Yah Olave is a smooth WR not really explosive… Tyson with Olave and Vele would be a hell of a trio.

I’d add Brazzell, Sarratt, and Lane to that list. I agree we need playmakers, but if we can’t get Reese or Downs, I want to go OL in the first and pick the best WR (or Sadiq at TE) available in the 2nd.

We need playmakers.

It goes against everything I believe in the modern era, but I am not 100% opposed to taking a gamechanging RB early-ish

Tyson is a catch and fall guy like Olave. He’s a nice WR but not worth a top 10 pick.

Unless there is a unicorn skill player at 10, then there is better value in the 2nd-3rd round for RBs, WR & TE.

A guy like Chris Brazzell in the 2nd or 3rd would be a nice coup, for instance.

Outside of the freaks of nature, I agree size is overrated. It has value, but the style of play is more important that just being big.

One thing this offense could use is a guy that can consistently high point a ball. Vele appears to have that talent, but it would be great to have someone else to do this as well. Johnson appears to have the "want" to do it, he just has not been consistent with it.

Too many times, fans want to think you need that 6'4"+ guy to be your big body guy that can go up and get it; then you get him and he's the type that will go up and try to body the catch. As Saints fans, we should know better as we had the curse of witnessing one of the better high point WRs who was only 5'9" - Steve Smith. He could not climb the ladder as much as some of the taller WRs, but you put that ball over him, his hands were on it.

I want a WR who dominates his catch radius. Scheme and zones can mitigate less speed.

I really don't care about the measurables either. If we are talking WR in the first, he needs a true #1 who can get consistent separation and has elite hands.

I’d like a Shaheed replacement. Someone that’s just a pure burner with good hands of course.

I don't think it's really either.

IMO we need a WR that can get YAC and can win the majority of contested catches (which we may have in Vale on the 2nd point)

Don't forget we have two promising young WRs we haven't seen yet in Trey Palmer and Ja-Lynn Polk.

I still haven't given up on Bub Means because he's got size and talent but he's got to be on the field. This offseason will be critical for him.

I'm not certain Dante Pettis or Mason Tipton are going to be long term answers. Pettis has been in the league a while now and just hasn't put it together. He doesn't fumble so he might be a nice 4th or 5th WR on your roster but I don't see him as a 2 or 3 option. Certainly not a #1
