It’s common sense that there will be a drop in production when going from Brees to Bridgewater, but he managed the game well and did what he had to for the W. Bring on the Cowboys!

Based on the majority of this board the last 2 weeks? Yes.

It is obvious that most of our fans have never seen a game with Aaron Brooks, any Billy Joe, Wade Wilson, Steve Walsh, Danny wuerffel, or John Fourcade.

They actually think we have a hall of fame QB sitting behind Bridgewater and that our hall of fame coach doesn’t realize it.

Aaron Brooks

Threw the ball away on 2-point conversion (before rule change in 2015 of course).

Favre was replaced by AR. Montana replaced by SY. Having HoF talent as a backup is not unheard of. Offensive system has a lot to do with it.

So there's two examples.

Just playing devil's advocate. Legendary coaches usually find a way to make it work.

Didn't the Eagles win a Super Bowl with the backup??? Who replaced like an MVP dude..

Back up QBs can be pretty good for their teams in this league..

San Diego had Doug Flutie and Drew Brees begins Phillip Rivers at one point.

Tom Brady was once a backup to Drew Bledsoe.

Steve Young backed up Joe Montana.

I’m sure I’m leaving out a few.

It happens.

Trent Green was the starter for St. Louis going into the 1999 season until Rodney Harrison blew his knee up in a preseason game. Enter Kurt Warner.

Buffalo never found a successor to Jim Kelly, but Frank Reich kicked some serious arse serving as his backup.

I think you are correct in that the system plays a part in the success of a backup and I would add that the supporting cast is also important. Both of my examples were on teams that were loaded with future Hall of Fame WRs, RBs, and Linemen.

I think it's reasonable to expect Bridgewater to play well with the pieces around him but it's not fair to expect him to run the offense as well as Drew Brees. He had good day by normal standards yesterday. Kept the offense moving, scored points, and didn't turn the ball over.

To be fair, these are the same posters that expect LSU football to win every game by 30, and LSU baseball to go 56-0 every regular season.

Steve Young was pretty terrible in Tampa and only became the HOF QB after spending a couple of years as Montana's backup.

Aaron Rogers is an exception to the rule.
