Y’all think it’s a possibility we give the Seahawks one of our first(19) and third (98) for Metcalf??

You want DK and MT13 to go to war? Because that is what will happen if you put those two in the same locker room.

The WR market is turning the position into what the RB market has become. At this point, you might as well just draft your WR’s and then let them walk when the rookie deal comes up. Until the cap increases drastically, paying a wr $30m a year is absolutely absurd.

There is literally no reason to sign a FA WR if they are expecting 20-30 mil a year now. Draft them cheap, trade them when they are up for a pay day. Rinse and repeat.

Only argument against would be for any WR that is a consensus top 5-10. And, I would even include the caveat that once injured, if they don't return to form, you need to consider moving on when it makes sense from a cap perspective.

Sucks from a loyalty standpoint, but it's the smart business move

Not necessarily and it's team dependent.

Sure rookie or young WRs are more-equipped than ever to produce, but the WR position is much more valuable than RB in today's NFL.

If you mean it's like the RB position in terms of volume of bodies that can play, yeah sure there's lots of WRs that exist thanks to the modern passing game. But there's still an elite class of WRs that deserve 2nd contracts or mega deals.

It's hard to say that for a RB. If you draft a RB in the first round, you are already overpaying him - that's not true for WRs at all.

Give up a 1st and 3rd then pay him $22 million per year after the season? No thanks. We already have our $100 mil WR we need to get a rookie on a rookie contract.

How?

And what does that do for the team?

You people are morons when it comes to trades and roster decisions

I don’t know we could just pick up his 5th year option(I think)… we saving a lot of money at QB the next two seasons compared to other teams… if we still feel we can compete it’s moves like this that need to be made

No way you obtain another 1st round pick to acquire a receiver who is looking to get paid. The pay for receivers has become obscene. Use one of the picks to draft a receiver. There are a lot off really exceptional ones in this draft. Been wrong before but that's my thoughts. And I am a Metcalf fan.

Metcalf doesn't have a 5th year option, that's only for 1st round picks. If this trade was actually considered, you would be looking at the following situation.

Currently: MT13 has a cap hit of $13M for 2022

Trade: Metcalf would have cap hit of just under $4M in 2022. MT13 would then have a dead money cap hit of $37M

So, you'd be spending $28M more for the same position & need a true #1 in 2023 unless you're willing to reset the market for Metcalf

Every situation is different. Some teams trying to win now are making mega deals for WRs is because they are worth it (Adams, Diggs, and Tyreek). These are Top 5 WRs in the league.

Some teams are "overpaying" for mediocre WRs out of desperation, like the Jaguars. Some teams nobody wants to go to, like the Jets :)

A team like the Saints is none of these right now, so there's almost zero chance they would go after DK unless they found a way to jettison MT13.

If they kill each other, do we get salary cap relief?
