Discussion: If the Saints draft Will Campbell at 9...how do you shuffle the OL?

Start him at LG next to Fuaga?
Move Penning to G and have Campbell and Fuaga as the Tackles (well, which Tackle spot?)
I imagine Fuaga would not want to move from LT because of the $ difference, and I imagine Will very much wants the chance to play LT for the same reason.

I’m not moving Fuaga off LT at all. This obsession to do so is weird. He was so fuking good last year. Why move him? If they do draft Campbell which i hope they don’t, you put his arse at guard. See if Penning continue to develop at RT. I’d start it looking like Fuaga, Campbell, McCoy, Ruiz, Penning.b

It's a good problem to have but I don't see Big Willie being there at 9. Next Discussion....

2 highest paid tackles in the game play RT, and at one-point wasn't Ram 1 of the highest paid OTs in the league
But to answer your question, IMO, Fuaga has proven he can hold his own at LT, Campbell has not proven anything. Therefore, I think you have Campbell & Penning battle out the LG & RT spots.

Penning has had his best year yet at RT. Let him stay there and continue to develop. Don’t make him learn his 3rd position in 3 years. The knock on Campbell is his arm length and that’s better suited for a guard. If we draft him out him at LG

I like Campbell but you do not draft a guard with a top 9 pick.

What if they draft Membou? or even Simmons? Banks is mocked from the teens to the mid 20s. shite even the tackle Conerly from Oregon is creeping up boards. Do you trade down into Booker or Zabel territory? We can really throw a dart in round 1 and land one an OL
Kiper has Membou at 11, Campbell going 13, Simmons 25
Jeremiah has Membou 7, Campbell at 10, Simmons 31
Lance Zierlein has Membou 4, Campbell 7, Simmons 10,
Dane Brugler has Membou 4, Campbell 5, Simmons 29

Having your best tackle at LT is not as needed as 20 years ago when many QB's were statues.
Now having a good RT on the rollout side can be as important or better.

Really is interesting seeing how these mocks get legs and move around between the end of the season and right before the draft. At one point, just about every mock had Campbell & Simmons going top 10. Now, Kiper appears to be the first to say no o-linemen will go top 10.
Also, looking at the point of this thread, it appears Membou & Campbell are both being considered OT/G in these drafts. Which could sort of answer OP's question about where to play them if drafted by the Saints.
For those that care:
Kiper - Saints taking Dart
Jeremiah/Lance - Mykel Williams
Dane - Malaki Starks

Jeremiah just updated his mock and has us taking Jihaad Campbell.

Zierlein has us taking Shemar Stewart too
RE: Membou - he clears all the tackle thresholds with regards to arm length and wingspan. Would be shocked for him a team to select him as a guard given his athleticism. Campbell, maybe.
They are in some nice company here

No clue. Brand new staff with new concepts and new eyes.
Does anyone have confidence in any backup olineman outside of Patrick at. LG?

Membou could be plug in LG which could transition to RT whenever needed

You chose violence today
Fuaga vs Penning

Sacks - 6 vs 5
QB hits - 9 vs 4
Pressures - 39 vs 54
Overall grade - 65.7 vs 60.2
Pass block - 62.2 vs 51.6
Run block - 69.5 vs 70.1

Yes that’s why I keep bringing up Penning’s 5th year option. He could be gone after this year. I think most of the tackle options could play guard, but do you really want to burn 1.9 if it’s not your tackle of the future..

for how bad penning was for us, we shouldn't be that upset about his year 1 progress at RT and his strength in run blocking.
fuaga did great, but it wasn't all A+ across the board neither.
