So if only 4 players are suspended, how was this a team wide bounty. How is the largest bounty program in the nfl?

I take it that you believe that Adam Schefter made that up? Or is it that you just don't want to believe it

ESPN was spoonfed info directly from Goodel's office and ran with the story without bothering to look any deeper. None of us know how much of it is true.

Personally, this is what I expected for Vilma.

You only expected it because you had already seen the completely over the top suspension of Payton. If the player suspensions had somehow come out first, you would not have expected it, and certainly would not consider it reasonable.

This suspension of Vilma is waaaaay over the top as well. The difference is that the NFLPA is going to get involved.

Was he a tool when he caught the Saints in a bounty scheme and told them there would be no punishment if they stopped immediately? Why aren't the Saints tools for not stopping? Goodell was a nice guy, and the Saints told him to frick off. The Saints are getting slapped for giving Roger the biggest finger he'd ever seen.

What about the other teams that didn't stop like the Giants? Why aren't they getting the same treatment?

Allegedly of course. Though, the Giants actually came out and admitted to it.

Vilma really isn't that good anymore, not much of a loss.

I don't get why vilma's is so much worse than everyone else but other than that it is not as bad as I thought

And given his age, 4 games off during the easiest part of our schedule may not be bad, will keep him fresh later in the season. Vilma doesn't deserve a year's suspension, but unless Lofton gets hurt, it won't have a huge effect on us.

its funny hearing all the talking heads mention how we brought all these LB's in because the Saints were bracing for Vilma's punishment. Really? LB has been a weak spot on this team for years. Lazy reporting, journalism.

I think it's a combination of the two. We've been weak at LB but knew we'd have a decent sized punishment to cover for Vilma. I was expecting half a season. I'm actually pumped about this core group of LB's we picked up along with guys like Casillas.

Have been busy today and just finding this.

1. Kudos boardmates! maybe even the ranters are tired. The board looks pretty orderly and not melting down with a full page of fresh bounty posts.

2. Actually not too bad overall. Maybe less than expected. Thought there might be more 1-2 game suspensions

3. Vilma- huge fan but it might do his body good to rest up. He'll prolly have a hard time getting back on the field though after Lofton takes over.

Don't worry about backup either. Hawthorne is capable at MLB

4. Will Smith- as expected, I kinda like the younger guys getting more reps to start the season. Remember Smith was suspended the first 2 last year.

I don't agree with the Vilma thing at all.

And for everyone saying it isn't a big deal, he was clearly the best LB on the field and would have been 2nd best, 3rd at worst this season. If he played Mike, Lofton at SAM and Hawthorne/Chamberlain/Casillas at WILL, I would say that they would have been the best set in the Payton era.

Will Smith will not be a huge loss, but I'm pretty sure he would have played a lot in Spags' system.

The really lazy reporting and journalism and thinking are those who are toeing the party line by saying that the suspensions aren't for the bounty system, but for the cover up and perpetuation of the bounty system, even after the league stated that the four suspensions are all tied to events that occurred BEFORE the league ordered the team to stop...

Vilma was horrible playing MLB last two seasons. Why would we want to do it again?

Horrible is such a mean word.

However, Vitt said as much. But, he was still the best LB on the roster and would have made for a pretty nice LB lineup.
