I think their use of injured reserve is more of a problem and less ethical than the so-called bounty bullshite. A guy like Toon isn't hurt enough to go on IR. if he's not hurt and you can't use him, let him go somewhere where he won't become Adrian Arrington 2.0

Didn't we give up a draft pick for Camarillo?
Posted on 8/31/12 at 9:16 pm to lsutigers1992
Pretty sure they did the same exact thing (redshirt year) with Meachem, that worked out pretty damn well.
And I'm pretty sure we just picked Camarillo up, don't think we gave anything up

Just read that the Patriots did the exact same thing, putting a healthy Jeff Demps on "injured" reserve.

I thought Meachem was just inactive for like 12 games. I don't think they ever IRd him

Really, he was a camp body if I ever saw one. We had Tanner, AA and Toon all injured.
He never had a chance.
Look for him to be added to the roster if we have an injury.

I do remember Hokie going through the inactives each week before a game and Meachem was always on there. The frustration in his voice grew as the year went on.

Me too. That leaves Roby and Arrington as numbers 4 and 5
I'm not suprised, Saints can't have white receivers on the 53, it's a rule or something

Why? It's not right that we just kept on stashing Arrington for 4 years now. He has spent half the serviceable part of his career inactive. I hope they don't do it to Toon too.

quote:The Saints have had an injury problem at this position. Marquis Johnson clearly had this spot wrapped up. Johnny Patrick left the game injured last night. Patrick Robinson has missed playing time already. Greer may or may not be ready for the opener. And I would hate to have to settle for Mack moving up in the rotation. That's all I am saying. Hell, bring back Leigh Torrence.
Who exactly are you hoping to sign as a 4th cb

Basically, that rule only applies to injuries incurred in week one and after.

Yeah looks like you have to make the team.
LINK
Previously, any player put on IR was lost for the entire season. Now, if a player is hurt and put on injured reserve after Sept. 4, that player may return to the active roster eight weeks after the IR designation, and the player must be on the IR list for at least six weeks. In addition, a player must be "designated for return" at the time of his IR classification, which means that a team must anticipate a player's ability to return midseason. Teams can't just hope their key injured player will recover in time.

Toon was behind the 8 ball, and it was going to be an uphill battle for him to even see the field this year. I had a feeling they might put him on IR.
I'm disappointed about Higgins. He's looked good this pre-season.

so who will be the practice squad QB?
Posted on 8/31/12 at 10:01 pm to noladan
but then i saw they amended the rule to include players already on IR...who im guessing do not count against the 53.

I know. I said that. That is why it's wrong. Demps could have literally gone anywhere. Belichick probably fed him a line of bullshite that he'd get a chance to play quickly with no veteran RBs, blah blah blah. And then they shut him down at the first sign of an injury.

So we are supposed to just let these players that we've invested time, money, and draft picks walk because it's "not fair" that they have to ride the pine, collect a pay check, learn their roles better through practice, and get ready to make an impact next year?
By your logic, we should cut Toon loose so he can latch on with a team because what we are doing "isn't fair." Right?

Glad we kept all the RB's, WR's, and 5 DT's. They all can contribute.
