Cam is on the roster for the same reason Brees was on the roster in his final two years.
You’re not cutting the best player to play the position for you ever. He’s earned the right to have it be his choice to not be in the roster. Period. I’m sure Cam will come to the same conclusion Drew did.

If you’re a serious organization you 110% sit him down and tell him he’s done. Just like he 110% would’ve went to another team had they offered him significantly more money.

Aside from restructures obviously:
Carr:
Cut (pre june 1): saves 1.3mil, 50.1mil dead
Trade (pre june 1): saves 11.3mil, 40.1mil dead
Cut (post june 1): saves 30mil, 21.46mil dead
Trade (post june1): saves 40mil, 11.46mil dead
Jordan: Trade won't occur IMHO
Cut (pre june1) adds 3.9mil dead cap, not happening
Cut (post june1) saves 11mil, 9.06mil dead
Hill:
Cut or trade (pre june1): saves 277k, 17.71mil dead
Cut or trade (post june 1) saves 10mil, 7.99mil dead
Mathieu:
Cut (pre june 1): adds 984k dead cap, not happening
Trade (pre june 1): saves 16k, 11.3mil dead
Cut (post june 1): saves 6.25mil, 5.07mil dead
Trade (post june 1): saves 7.25mil, 4.07mil dead
Realistically, I think all 4 are here in various situations.
If you find a partner for Carr than the trade makes sense, but I have a feeling Moore wants a stable presence at QB his first year to decide if he can or cannot figure this out (he's done fairly well with 3 different QBs.
Cam will be given the opportunity to retire here, so he's gonna be restructured.
Hill is the one where you say hey man, we paid you damn well for what you do. We either restrucutre you or come to an extension that gives us some degree of relief with a possible swan song (2yr extension at like say 10mil) and you some degree of security to help offset this.
Mathieu is a tricky one because of our lack of depth in the safety position, but he too looks the same path as Cam, restructure and walk away next year.

Hill will be a 35 year old running gadget player off a major injury. His career is likely entering its absolute twilight. Hopefully he retires because the overwhelming odds suggest his play will likely fall off a cliff.
Logically correct. But if anyone could do it, it would be Taysom. I, for one, am pulling for him.

Trade Carr... Giants are stupid they will take him
Cut Hill (or trade him to Denver if Sean wants him)
Make a deal with Cam and Tyrann to restructure and let them know they most likely will be here 1 last year for leadership and not playing every down.
Or
Offer Tyrann and Cam as position coaches if they agree to save us the max amount of money possible.

Yeah but it’s just not a winning strategy to keep a guy on your roster at the time where the returns will likely diminish rapidly. We’ve already extended one aging runner already. If we were a contending team, sure maybe you work it out. But we’re in total transition.
I like Taysom too but we have to just be smart and less loyal/lifetime achievement rewarding at this point. I’d rather the touches go to grooming a young player who will actually contribute when we’re in the other side of this crap.

Didn’t Loomis just sign honey badger to an extension last year lol.

Cut all of them they old, injury prone and expensive. Thanks cam but you should be playing for league minimum with the production put out. If keeping any Taysom is the only player in that group with value
This dumb even Brady left New England he just got lucky and won again because Tampa was so talented all around him. When it's over it's over

did everyone forget he has a no trade clause?

kinda agree about Hill but at this point you do not know what we’ll be getting back with Hill in basically 2026. He’s not coming back from his knee injury until miss to late 2025 at the best and mostly like 2026.
I agree, but you’re also limited in what you can do with him before 3/12. Cut or trade and the savings are negligible.
Maybe negotiate a 1 year extension to reduce his salary from $10M+ to $2M guaranteed and add a “fake year” in 2026 with the agreement that you’ll cut him as soon as his rehab is done (so he has free access to medical staff during recovery) effectively creating a post 6/1 cut before the deadline

No trade clauses really don’t matter much.
Derek Carr is due 40mil in 2025. If the Saint cut him he’s only guaranteed 10mil from the saints and whatever he can get in the open market.
What team is paying him 30mil for a 1 year deal?
If the saints find a trade partner for him and they are willing to pick up 20 of his 40 mil and the saints find pick up the other 20. They go the Carr and say you can make 40 mil next season or 10 plus likely and 1 year 10 to 15 mil for 25 mil.
You choosing 40 mil or 25 mil?

Taysom isn’t going anywhere.
Moore will absolutely love to use.
He’s old and hurt. So he will average 15% of the snaps instead of 50+. He will have a role.

Loomis rears his Ugly Head yet again with those 4 contracted deals !!!!
If you keep these 4 noted players around… you are just extending the bleeding and forestalling the rebuild.
Gotta rip-off the band-aid !!!
Take the plunge and trade or cut the 4 players.
If we don’t have replacement players… that’s Loomis’s fault for shitty drafting over the years !!!!!
Again… we won’t be very good for the next 1-2 years… that’s Loomis’s fault….but this will bring high draft picks where we can Draft QB of the future (Arch Manning ??) and restock other positions in the team !!

We can’t cut them because of the cap hit unfortunately.

Geaux look at “htran90” salary cap chart listed above.
Look at the Cap Cost Savings of each player by cut or trade.
Significant dollars to be saved… and yet .. that’s only the beginning of what needs to be done to right the ship longterm !!!

The honey badger has played decent football the last 2 years. He eats up like 1000 snaps a yr. He doesn't make crazy money
Cam is the one that needs to go. Makes entirely too much for his production.
Wtf are you talking about?

The only team stupid enough to even think about a trade for Carr is the Jets. The New York media would crucify the Jets if they even consider it.
