ESPN.com Article on Prospect of NFL having 10 International Games in 2027

From above article: "The league also voted to strip teams' ability to protect any home games from international play. Previously, teams could protect two games."

Anyone with a pulse and that could do a small bit of research would have known to PROTECT: 1) Steelers and 2) Packers.

Especially the Steelers with common knowledge that Aaron Rodgers was returning for one more game in the Dome before his retirement..

Gayle Benson and her Advisors instead decided to pick the upside of having the NFL pick the top traveling Steelers and having a "lottery", like they supposedly did when they hosted the Super Bowl and were allotted some tickets for Season Ticket holders as camouflage knowing that they could offload their whole allotment of Steelers Paris Tickets to brokers for 5X their face value.

Another example on the Benson regime choosing Personal Profits over what would have been a nice economic boost for the city + some fan service to Saints loyal season ticket holders.

No you dummy. You protect the most important games. Division games.

The only reason the Rams didn't protect their home game against the 49ers is the Rams have no home game against the 49ers; the Faithful always fill SoFi.

Or they did not want to lose any potential homefield advantage since Pitt fans travel so well and always take up a decent percentage of the crowd.

Also, we do not know if the team tried to protect any other games from the international slate. What if the team used their allotment of 2 on Atl (trying to get the 20th anniversary game before Atl bitched out) and the GB game.

Also, frick Aaron Rodgers. I hope they picked the Steelers game as the international game just to keep him out of the Dome.

I don't give a shite about all of that. What I hate about it is the Steelers are scheduled to play in New Orleans once every 8 years. There is the potential once or twice in that period for them to come to N.O. in between there if the standings fall a certain way in a given year, but that's a 1-in-4 chance twice in that 8-year period.

The Steelers last played a regular-season game in N.O. in 2018. And this is why I hate the international games. Don't like losing home games against opponents we don't play often. Don't like hosing divisional home games, if that were to ever happen.

As a sth, I would've liked to see Aaron Rodgers in possibly his retirement season.

The saints reduced season ticket prices by 10% given the transfer of 1 home game to Paris (so 9 home games instead of 10). They assign different face values for different games. The steelers game is high value and would've been worth more than 1/10 of the season ticket price. The saints essentially pocketed the difference. Cleveland is valued at much less. If you pull the steelers game, reduce our season tickets by the actual value of that game.

But I think it's less about that than about Gayle wanting the best potential for a good crowd and reception for the game in Paris. That's more important to her than hosting the steelers here

Funny that we never had to worry about visiting Fans taking over the Superdome from 2006 to 2021.

There is a balance that exists between being able to organically protect your home field advantage by having a non-Carr product on the field and welcoming in 8k visiting fans that will help fill up 12,000 hotel room nights (3 nights on average) for a weekend during the fall.

Through 2026,, there will have been 63 regular season games played in Europe/South America/Australia.

Only three will have been Division Games:

Jaguars vs Colts in 2016*.

Panthers vs Tampa Bay in 2019.

49ers vs Rams in 2026**.

*Shahid Khan doing Jaguar in London things.

**As mentioned, Kroenke and McVay are probably tired of playing in front of 80% 49ers Fans in Intuit. I wouldn’t be surprised if they suggested this option to the NFL.

Odds were minuscule that they were going to pick Falcons, Panthers, or Buccs to be the game in Europe (if we didn’t protect them).

Saints should get ahead of this and announce what games they protected.

Why would they need to get ahead of a fart in the wind?

You want an out of conference game as the international game. It would be fricking stupid to let it be a game with higher stakes.

It would also be fricking stupid to pass up a chance to fly straight out of New York instead of anywhere else. While Browns would have been the preferred choice I'm sure, you'd have to go from New Orleans to Paris.

The way it fell out was best case scenario for us (barring the league letting us swap the week we play the Browns and the Steelers, which I doubt was on the table).

So that season ticket holders could sell them to opposing fans for a markup? Why would anyone with a pulse in their office make that call?

Because teams are known for making unnecessary announcements to appease such a small percentage of their fanbase

The Cleveland game was supposed to be in Paris and they changed it at the last minute.

He announced he is retiring after the season but he's washed so just watch whatever scrub Cleveland trots out the next week and imagine it's Rodgers.
