I’m not buying this whole “exploratory” meeting B.S.

Saints are trying to get it done. They got their guy and I don’t think he leaves without a deal.

They are headed to Ralph’s on the Park.

That's only good because the stupid arse Hendon Hooker mock drafts needed to die.

Someone needs to explain to me why we need to trade for Carr and not let him be cut and then sign him as a FA. He has a no-trade clause, the Raiders have to cut him if he declines to be traded. If he wants to be here, why to we have to give up a pick?

Finalizing the deal with Carr now doesn’t allow another team to swoop in when he gets cut.

Also the incentive for Carr is he can protect at least somewhat of that contract whereas if he hit free agency he doesn’t really know what we will get

On the saints side of things this allows a cap handicapped team to make a big move at QB by working through a trade and basically paying the raiders with a draft pick for cash

You run the chance of being out bid by the 7 other teams that need a QB

Someone is going to offer him more than the 40 million per year he's getting from the contract we'd be trading for? I don't think so. If we're willing to pay him that much, just offer it to him as a FA. No one else will.

Why leave it to chance?

A 3rd round pick is very reasonable and you can also have the Raiders pay part of that contract. Don't leave anything to chance.

And im not even all that excited about the prospect of Carr.

Who in the hell would have guessed a team would offer Watson 250 fully guaranteed? I sure as hell wouldnt have thought that

you are selling a draft pick and lowering the contact cost.

I have boots on the ground.

Meeting went very well. Carr is staying another day. Allen overheard being excited about the future and even discussion of training camp expectations.

Can’t see the Saints risk it by letting him hit free agency where they’ll have to bid against Carolina and Tampa Bay.

I'll believe the Raiders are giving up cap space to eat some of his remaining contract when I see it.

Everytime we have dinner with an off-season target we never get them (see Suh, Watson, etc)

If we trade a 3rd round pick for Derek Carr then this whole thing needs to be burned to the ground.

Now listen, I want Derek Carr. But,

He’s getting cut in one week.
He’s not worth a 3rd rounder.
If we lose out on him to another team in FA so be it. He’s marginally better than Dalton or Winston.

That makes sense, but no one cares. They're so depressed at how bad we are now, they're talking themselves into being excited over acquiring DEREK frickING CARR.

Let that sink in.
