Finalizing the deal with Carr now doesn’t allow another team to swoop in when he gets cut.

No team can swoop in if Carr refuses to waive his no trade clause to be traded to them. (Yea I know that wasn't you point) Keep reading.

If he wants to play for the Saints and the Saints want to pay him what he's asking it can be done in FA.

I guess from Carr's prospective if he hold out and gets cut then that removes his leverals to get as much money as he can. If he's a FA the Saints could back off the original deal and offer less, but Why would they? That would paint the Saints in a bad light as not trustworthy.

A career 28% winning percentage guy being excited shouldn't mean anything to anyone. Be real.

Exactly. This guys excitement if from the fact that he has a proven track record of losing as a HC yet continues to have a job.

Someone needs to explain to me why we need to trade for Carr and not let him be cut and then sign him as a FA. He has a no-trade clause, the Raiders have to cut him if he declines to be traded. If he wants to be here, why to we have to give up a pick?

Why do people think that NO is the ultimate team and destination and that they can just sign who they want?
Carr gets cut this get a lot more chaotic and no guarantee to get him. Trade for him and you’re in control.

They're so depressed at how bad we are now, they're talking themselves into being excited over acquiring DEREK frickING CARR.

Let that sink in.

1) Aside from Khalil Mack, whom they traded away, when's the last time anyone was really successful with the Raiders? Darren Waller when not injured, well Carr was his QB to help that. The Raiders are no different than the Jets, Browns, & Bears in how bad they have been for the last decade plus that true stars are few and far between.
2) Carr's career numbers are better than Dalto. Not by a huge margin, but better. Dalton won some games for us last season even though his arm is declining to the point where he was similar to Brees' last couple years, Carr can still throw it deep. Better comparison would be Carr to Winston. Both can sling it, both take chances, and will have a great highlight reel along with some bad lowlights. Best question to ask is Carr better than Winston, and is that difference worth a 3rd pick?
3) What's a real alternative that gives us the best chance to win now/short term? Don't say fricking tank because no self respecting team with jobs on the line go into a season to tank. Take a chance drafting somebody like Hooker or Levis at #29, no guarantee either of them will be successful and if they are not then we wasted a 1st rd pick instead of using "just" a 3rd for Carr
4) The one thing I'm still scared of is Pete fricking Carmichael. Regardless of QB, I don't think he's the answer at gameplanning throughout the week and calling plays on Sunday.

I mean a competent head coach would feel this every year.

Alvin Kamara, Trey Hendrickson and Terron Armstead were all third round picks…. That’s still a slot where you can get a very high potential player.

Given that we really need to go into rebuild mode, I’d rather take a chance on another team overpaying for Carr in FA than to move our third for a guy we’d have a good shot at landing for free in a week.

How can you call Carr a “baller”?

What can you possibly being seeing out there from him?

Dude hasn’t done shite in this league.

This is completely false. Not even close. Dalton threw a few so hard last season it went through their hands and hit them square in the facemask on multiple occasions. Don’t think Brees ever did that. Nothing wrong with his arm.

Now if yiu want to talk about his pocket awareness and inability to throw it away in a timely matter, that was his biggest issue….

His arm is definitely not nearly as strong as Carr's. Can Dalton get it downfield, sure, but he has to be able to take about 2 steps up in the pocket to do so which takes more time for a potential sack or for the DBs to get into place. There's a reason that scouts, coaches, and GMs always look for guys with description words like "arm talent" and "can make all the throws". Carr and even Winston have that, Dalton does not. While Dalton did have some good throws last year, I guarantee you that DCs didn't go into games worried about how to contain or limit him.

Say what you want about Carr, but I like that he is a guy that has numerous other options and he wants to come here and play for Dennis Allen.

You weren’t comparing his arm to Carrs though. You compared it to Brees dead arm.

Also means nothing. Winston probably has a better arm than all of them. Didn’t get him far.

He did pete. We don't have the poker chips other teams do. We are trying to sell him on the Saints and a new contract before the poker game even starts.

I’d feel better about a 4th or 5th round pick, that 3rd is really needed this year

So were Zack Baun, TreQuan Smith, and Garret Grayson
