There have been a lot of credible rumors going around tonight about Carmichael taking on a different role. Going to be interesting to see how it comes together.

Kris Richard & Ryan Nielsen will be strong candidates for promotion to defensive coordinator on Dennis Allen's new Saints staff. I've heard Allen will likely hire someone from outside to be the offensive coordinator. Pete Carmichael is expected to remain on staff, but not as OC.

Probably should add this too as reference:

Gotta replace payton’s brain power.

It cant just be Pete. And we cant get a top notch guy in from the outside without the OC job to lure him in.

Pete gets associate HC and qb coach roles. New guy gets OC.

Thank God for Pete. Team player man.

He declined an interview for HC. Maybe this is what he wanted?

Not everyone wants the stress and blame of OC (without Sean being the real one)/DC/HC

Not sure he leaves Mahomes and and that cast. If he’s not going to be HC, why leave probably the best QB, TE, WR, RB combo in the league? He can look good every year there until he gets an HC gig. The risk is high that he could fail here comparatively.

Not really. Just proved what we all knew. He wasn’t really the OC. Just a glorified assistant for Payton.

The offense desperately needs a new identity and direction and for Allen to succeed he needs to make a splash hire.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like maybe it's his own desire? He doesn't want to be HC. He may not want to be the full on OC?

If he wants to show the league he is HC material, he leaves that talent lineup and Andy Reid and shows he can have a good offense without the help that many give the real credit to.

It's not a typical situation.

Maybe he didn't like the idea of being the sole OC when Payton was out? He may have been very comfortable in the role he had, regardless of official title.

Dude ain’t getting a HC job.

If he comes here and proves he can do it without Reid, then maybe he gets one eventually.

Because he’s been consistently passed on in HC searches. Some of that is likely due to the success mainly being attributed to Mahomes and Reid. Now if he comes to the Saints under a defensive coach to a team that was terrible offensively last year and does well, it’s helps to make his case.
